| | Welcome back friends. The twenty-first gift of the Spirit that I'll be talking about is the gift of Teaching. (From the book: "Network" by Zondervan) Teaching Literal Meaning: To instruct. Description: The gift of Teaching is the divine enablement to understand, clearly explain, and apply the Word of God, causing greater Christlikeness in the lives of listeners. Distinctives 1. Communicate biblical truth that inspires greater obedience to the Word. 2. Challenge listeners simply and practically with the truths of Scripture. 3. Present the whole counsel of God for maximum life-change. 4. Give attention to detail and accuracy. 5. Prepare through extended times of study and reflection. Traits: Disciplined, Perceptive, Teachable, Authoritative, Practical, Analytical, and Articulate. Cautions: 1. Should avoid pride that may result from their "superior" biblical knowledge and understanding. 2. Could become too detailed when teaching and fail to make life application. 3. Should remember that their spirituality is not measured by how much they know. References: Romans 12:7, 1 Corinthians 12:28-29, Acts 18:24-28, 2 Timothy 2:2 If this sounds like you then the only way to know for sure is to ask God to give you opportunities or ministries that require the use of this gift. A teacher may have issues with not seeing themselves as gifted because their gift is "less supernatural". We all must remember that God is smart enough to make sure all of our gifts have a place and a purpose. All of our gifts are selected by Him and they are the ones that suit us best. We should be respectful of that. |
