I know I'm bound to say something or use a bad word that may be offensive... So if that sort of thing bothers you.. read no further.. its your choice:)

As most of you know.. I have two beautiful daughters that love dance. They stand in front of

the mirror for hours practicing their moves, spins, jumps.. (I know there are technical terms for these and even if I knew what they were.. I wouldn't know how to spell them)

One of the things they look forward to is the TV show.. So You Think You Can Dance. They love to critique, try new things they see on the show. They love to hear about the success of these dancers that have been given an opportunity to use their talent.

Recently, my youngest daughter was told that she shouldn't watch the show because God wouldn't watch it. So that brings me to my question.. What would God watch? Would he watch only the "Christian" television network, ( I think thats when he throws the remote at the TV or is it just me that does that) would He watch the history channel, would he watch nascar, I mean afterall.. they waste a perfectly good bottle of champaign at the end.. does He watch football and just close his eyes at the beer commercials and the cheerleaders...Does He watch CNN or Fox news.. or is He as tired of the war and political backstabbing BullS#@. as the rest of us. Let me ask another question.. Does God only read christian books, I mean.. He loves a good romance novel.. look at Song of Solomon.. don't know if I would read that to my daughters... Does God play Halo, or does he prefer solitaire? Does God read only Christian magazines with pictures of cute Christian things.. you get my point...

I feel like Kevin Bacon in footloose getting on my soapbox..

AND.. David in the Bible Danced.. NAKED for pete sakes.. explain that one.. (had to throw that in)

I think... As God sits with his Jumbo, Big Screen IMAX, surround sound television and watches So You Think You Can Dance and sees one of His Kids dancing their heart out, using a talent that He has given them... He says.. "Look at my Girl there dancing the waltz!! Look... thats my Dude doing hip hop! I love that my kids are not wasting their life..finally, somebody using a talent I gave them "

We as Christians need people in the arts, we need actors, actresses, dancers, movie makers, photographers, models, writers,.... we need people to DANCE and I don't just mean in church with the little ribbon streamers... We need dancers to dance hip hop, ballet....

Stepping off my soapbox.. For now.

Wednesday, June 06, 2007

One Giant Step!

William Shakespear once wrote....

There is a tide in the affairs of man, which when taken at the flood will lead to fortune, omitted, all the voyages in their life will be bound in shallows and miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat and must take the current when it serves or forever lose our ventures...

Ty, as I look at this photo, I am reminded of the time we decided to try and surf during one of the hurricanes. Waves 12-15ft, crashing, throwing us around.. We swam with all we had to get into position for that wild ride. A broken board, bruised bodies.. we had the ride of our life.

Today you stand at the edge of the flood and as overwhelming as that may look it will take you places in life that you may not have otherwise been able to experience. Take that leap, dont be afraid, and enjoy the ride of your life.

We are proud of you!

A few more pics at www.flickr.com/photos/impactmedia

ONE

Friday, March 16, 2007

WEDDINGS

A shot taken from a wedding I did this past weekend. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average. Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006. Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year … In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Wednesday, February 21, 2007

Rules for "Hanging out" with my teenage daughter

The other day I had one of my more brilliant bright ideas...

Since Ty moved out I am faced with mowing my own yard. A task that I dont particularly like, and its a known fact that I am quite obsessive about my yard. So, its not just a half hour chore and Im done. I weed, edge, trim the hedges, and usually turns into an all day event.

While sitting at the dinner table the other night, Mariah our 14 year old asked about "hanging out with her.. bbb-oo-yyy,, friend.. I find it hard to even say.. So I will refer to him as "the boy"

I asked her what do I get out of this deal? He, the boy gets to "hang out" with MY daughter... and I get nothing in return???.. So the idea struck me.. in the olden days... "The Boys" had to prove themselves. Had to bring gifts to the dads.

So here is my thought.. If the boy wants to hang out with my daughter.. he needs to bring me gifts, do good deeds, prove himself worthy to hang.

So here is my plan...

Every Saturday the boy must come over and do my yard and it MUST meet my expectations (wicked laugh here). On the days he wants to "hang out" and I dont have yard work he can wash my cars.. another thing that I am obsessive about. (wicked laugh)

I see this as the perfect solution.. by the time "the boy" gets done with the chores he will be too tired to "hang out"

I WIN!
