| Wow- it's been a while. Tomorrow starts the two weeks of all-day band
camp, and after that school starts. This summer truly has flown by. I
have met some amazing people and done some pretty amazing things,
however. I only wish time had a rewind button.
Looking back on summer:
My days were filled with crazy cool events. For two weeks in the
beginning, I got my Driver's Ed credit out of the way through summer
school. Immediately following, I went on the most amazing two-week
cruise to Europe. We visited: Rome, Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Venice,
and Florence in Italy; Barcelona, Spain; Cannes, France; and Dubrovnik,
Croatia. During my stay on the Carival Liberty I met some of the most
influential people ever. To wrap up the last of summer, my framily and
I spent a week in Hilton Head Island, which we just returned from
yesterday. Starting tomorrow and filling up the next two weeks...Band
Camp. That's it. Then school starts. Here's to hoping I'll survive
sophomore year.

I know- this picture sucks. But he's amazing.

Mom, me, and Stephanie in front of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy.

...and, of course, guard practices. :)

School's Out for Summer- almost. ;)
Current mood: sick
Well,
there's only another half day to live through before school is
officially out for summer! YES! The Honors Day program is
tomorrow...but first, I've got to present a project in English and get
my French and Algebra 2 exams back...then, I'M FREE! Today
was hard enough- I woke up with a pounding headache and my allergies
are finally catching up with me..arg. So, that was miserable- and I
didn't do too well on my Algebra 2 exam. French wasn't bad...and I did
get some of my other exam grades back. Voila-103 for Global Studies,
100 for Creative Writing, 100 for P.E., 100 for Science...so I'm def.
excited about those! Oh, did I mention I got the National Physical
Fitness Award yesterday? Sah-weet! As
of right now- I just got back from a European lunch with my mom and I'm
about to go read some Da Vinci Code and eat a little ice cream. Around
5:15 I'll be heading over to Dorman again...got to film the graduation
tonight as part o' Broadcast Communications! ;) Hopefully I won't screw
that up. ;)

| I wrote this yesterday...or was it this morning!? Ahh...I can never remember anything!
Le weekend, c'est fantastique! Current mood: tired
Hey guys! Well, I guess I should start off by saying- sphincter boy. :) I just finished watching Wayne's World with my sister...and I am definitely about to go to bed. Today was fun- but oh so tiring. We drove down to Commerce, Ga to go to this plant and pottery place my mom enjoys, and we went to the Mall o' Georgia to shop in their fabulous Hot Topic. So, I am sooo happy it's finally the weekend.
This week was rough. Only Thursday and Friday were good, but that pretty much guarantees Monday to be crap. Thank god there's only 7 days of school left.
Words of advice for this coming week- Don't "not care" since this year is almost over. And whenever anything fails, you always know you can eat a pickle. There you go- the words that will save the planet one day. 'Tis true.
So, while visions of Queen dance in my head, and verses of Bohemian Rhapsody ring in my ears- I think that I am off to bed. Have a wondeful Mother's Day tomorrow- ;)

| From yesterday:
So
let's start with the weekend. Friday night was kinda boring...I fell
asleep really early for some reason...and then I woke up to the
tickling of my psycho sister, Stephanie. We ran some errands and then
went to Hatcher Gardens for a little while. Afterwards, I headed over
to Alex's grandparents' house for her party! It was fabulous!!! I got
in this small boat with Kirk and paddled my way over to the beach with
one oar! :) We played frisbee and hung out...I won a game of Twister.
Then, everything started to calm down. Alex's foot is injured..and mine
is jammed..thanks to the shin and weight of Blake, one of the two guys
there that I didn't know prior to the party. So, that was that. I
proceeded to hang out and left for Alex's house around 11.
We
stayed up watching a home video of Alex and Ansley goofin' off..then we
both fell asleep. Yesterday, I left around 10 in the morning, and just
planted some bushes with my mom in our frontyard and sat around for the
large portion of the day. After some errands, we ate at the Bronco on
Blackstock yesterday evening for dinn dinns.
Well,
today at school was all right. It was really only interesting and
"good" in 5th and 6th periods...but, what can I say?- it's school. So,
I'm definitely glad to be away from it...for tonight at least. And
thank god there's only 4 and a half more weeks left before summer!!!
Well,
it is my sister's 23rd birthday, so we're going to head over to the
Lime Leaf for a Thai dinner tonight...and before then, I guess I've
just got to do homework and some more decorating with my unfinished
room. :) I'm off-

Ok, now here's a worthwhile article that I think you guys might like to read!!
Harry Potter Broomstick: Bad Vibrations? 9/4/2002 By Martha W. Kleder
Harry Potter Broomstick: Bad Vibrations? By Martha W. Kleder
Mattel is marketing a toy broomstick in its Harry Potter line that is raising eyebrows.
The Harry Potter Nimbus 2000, for sale since
October of 2001, is marketed to 8 to 12-year-old children. A toy
replica of the broomstick Harry Potter uses in the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the Nimbus 2000 is, according to at least one mother, providing a little too much stimulation.
Quoting from the editorial review posted on the Amazon.com Web site, Kids can now fly a Nimbus 2000 broomstick just like members of their favorite Quidditch team.
The Nimbus 2000 features a grooved stick and
handle for easy riding. Enhancing the excitement are the vibrating
effects and magical swooping and whooshing sounds the broom makes when
on. Sounds can also be activated when the switch is set in standby
mode. Requires three AA batteries (included), reviewer Larry White adds.
A check of other online toy stores shows that description to be accurate.
Sarah Rosales, Vice President of Public
Relations for Mattel's Entertainment Division said, Our intent in
creating the Nimbus 2000 Flying Broomstick was to bring the magic of
the fictional Harry Potter tale to life for children. The toy was
created to mimic the effect of flying and uses batteries to produce
swooshing sound effects.
At Mattel, the well-being of children is always our top priority.
Rosales added that Mattel does not consider
the toy inappropriate adding that they apologize that some parents may
consider it to be [inappropriate], but that was not the company's
intention.
Customer reviews of the toy are mixed. A
reviewer identified as a toy enthusiast from New Jersey described her
shock when she purchased the toy for her daughter last Christmas.
"It wasnt until after she opened her gift and
started playing with it that I realized that the toy may offer a more
than sensational experience. The broomstick has cute sound effects and
***VIBRATES*** when they put it between their legs to fly," she wrote
on December 26, 2001."Come on, what were the creators of this toy
thinking? Shell keep playing with the Nimbus 2000, but with the
batteries removed, she added."
Other reviewers were apparently not as quick on the uptake. Ashley from Texas is one who found nothing unusual with the toy.
My 12-year-old daughter is a big Harry Potter
fan, and loved the part with the Nimbus 2000, so I decided to buy her
this toy, Ashley wrote on June 11, 2002. Even my daughters friends
enjoy playing with this fun toy. I was surprised at how long they can
just sit in her room and play with this magic broomstick!!
Other reviewers seemed to be simply clueless.
Poola13 from Ohio noted how popular the toy was with his/her
12-year-old daughter and her friends. Poola13 added in the June 11,
2002, review,"They play for hours in her bedroom with this great toy.
They really seem to like the special effects it offers (the sound
effects and vibrating). My oldest daughter (17) really likes it too!"
Now, given the growing attention this toy is
receiving on various Internet message boards, that last message is
likely a tongue-in-cheek posting, however the first question remains
true, What WERE the creators of this toy thinking?
