| My religion professor spoke in Chapel today, and I really enjoyed it. I
didn't have anything to take notes there, so I had to write all down
after the fact. So, I'm posting them here to make sure they don't get
lost or anything.
Why are Christians and Pagans indistinguishable? It’s
because we have “sanitized” Jesus. We use Him as a get-out-of-hell free card,
like in Monopoly. Christianity has come
to be all about a walk down the aisle with the music playing softly and the
lights dimmed to say “the prayer.” In the Great Commission people always focus
on the “Go” part. Let’s get people saved, but it ends there. The next part,
however, says to teach them to obey all that Jesus commanded. Saying
“the prayer” or making some confession of faith is good and necessary, but not
enough. We’ve taken the first step of Christianity and made it the only step.
What if you met someone who claimed to be an English major because he filled
out a form and checked a box but hasn’t taken any courses? Imagine a person who
said he was going to run a marathon because he signed up and paid his fee but
hasn’t done any training. What if a guy said he was married because there was
lady who walked down an aisle and they said some words and he even got to kiss her,
but he hasn’t seen her lately? Now think of someone saying “Yeah, I’m a
Christian. A few years back the music was playing softly, the lights dimmed,
and then I walked down the aisle and said a prayer. Yeah I’m a Christian.”
That’s not an English major, marathon runner, marriage, and that’s certainly
not a Christian. These are all good first steps, but you know an English major
by the excess English courses they take, a marathon runner by the excessive
training, and a marriage by the love and oneness exhibited by the couple. A
Christian likewise is known by His good works. The salvation is necessary, but
it’s a continuous lifestyle, not a historical event. Christianity is like a new
car lot. We take in our old beat up cars that we’ve wrecked countless times and
get a new Lamborghini. But if we don’t learn how to drive better we’ll only
wreck the Lamborghini too. There’s a lot more to Christianity than just a walk
down the aisle to say a prayer, but Christians and preachers hide it to fill
few the pews. They want you to bring your friends, and they don’t want to
offend your friends because it’s probably “friend day.” Christians need to do
some self-evaluations and stop “sanitizing” Jesus. Yes, He is our Savior but
He’s more than that. He’s a Teacher too.
And Jesus came and
spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go
ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the
end of the world. Amen. Matthew

| Two more weeks until I go home!!! Wow, I can't wait. I have a research
paper due Friday, an article summary due Tuesday, and a presentation of
my research paper on Wed. After that it's just my exams. As far as I
know only one of them is going to be cumulative, but there's one that
I'm not sure about. It shouldn't be too bad. The worst part is that May
1st the last exam day, and I have a 6pm exam on May 1st. Sooo I'll be
waiting until May 2nd to go home. I was going to say more, but I am
tired so goodnight.

| One more month exactly until Summer Break. My last exam is May 1st at
6pm. I'm not at all pleased about it being it so late in the day,
because I'll have to wait until Wednesday, May 2nd to drive home.
Theoretically I could still go home after my exam, but I'll probably be
tired then and if I take time to rest then it will be too late. I'm
also lucky enough to have a Saturday exam this semester. But I
guess I can't really complain since I get out earlier than everyone
else. Well this brief update will have to suffice for the time being
because I must return to my term paper on The Evolution of Social Dance
in the United States.

| So the 80s skate night is this Tuesday. I don't think anyone reading my
xanga will be going, so here's some pics of my outfit (and latest hair
color). I think I'm ready for Tuesday... there's a prize for the best
dressed, so I *better* win it lol. A lot of effort shall be put forth,
but I glad I dont have to put forth effort to end up looking like that
everyday - in other words, I'm glad its not the 80s.

| SNOW!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!! Rachael and I just came back inside from taking
snow pics. It's all over the ground and cars and really pretty. We
passed some people making a snowman. Then we trudged up the hill and
almost slipped a couple of times and ran into a group of people
whooping and yelling and throwing snowballs and whatnot. We couldn't
stay out very long though, because Rachael just had on her pjs, a
thinish jacket, and slip on shoes and the snow and ice was melting
through my shoes. So now I sit nice and warm in my room, and I think
I'm ready to go back to bed, since I no longer have to be at class in 3
min. | | |
