it amazes me more often than not, how ignorant i am of the life & times of the new testament. i mean, even with a curiousity for jewish history, a desire to study the scriptures, and a growing knowledge of the authors of the new testament - even with this and more - i fail to realize and picture in my mind's eye the cities, places, people, and conversations of these times. ephesus was known for worshipping artemis. it was also known to be the seaport of the ancient world. some of the streets were made with white marble with columns lining the main entry ways...and yet they would have been absolutely intolerant of the 'anarchy' they saw within christanity, or the way. and yet paul has the courage to write a beautiful letter the believers of ephesus encouraging them to keep on. incredible.

An interesting take on truth from k-os. Despite the profound line of thinking, it's not entirely accurate. On the one hand, this whole idea of actions speaking louder than words is present, and true. But, on the other hand, it doesn't negate the inherent fact that we've been given a human responsibility to speak truth either. It may more accurately be stated that, "It's not our primary job to tell people the truth...". Or, it may not be as effective at times, but it certainly may become our job, or our very duty, to be a literal voice of truth at some point or another which will still work towards the creation of an atmosphere where people can see the truth.

Crowder, I Hold You Personally Responsible

So I jumped at/on the opportunity of hearing David Crowder*Band as you set out for your Remedy Tour, right? Sounds good...sounds real good, actually...

For starters, you are coming neither to Nashville or any part of Tennessee.

Furthermore, HotLanta, the closest other venue is currently and already sold out. Because, as you so poignantly noted, tickets like to fly.

What's the bottom line here? I am at a loss and DC*B shall continue their epic tour without me...is this really all that bad? Probably not, but does it completely leave me feeling abandoned, sad, and otherwise down? No. Not really...just really bummed that I am going to miss what will perhaps be one of the coolest and "fantastical" tours of this already intriguing decade, or at least this year, surely.

And one more thing, Mr. Crowder, I think you passed on your sore-throatness to all of your xanga readers...as I have now been out of the loop for a week - and it's not strep throat. So I ask, can you OD on mucinex?

Penicillin

i usually do very well with needles, pain, and all that is involved with surgery (i.e. staples and stitches without anesthesia) but this morning i received two doses by shot of penicillin. it's like concrete being pushed into your hip/butt area. not pleasant, not delicious, not even remotely funny - except i was laughing out loud for some unknown reason...needless to say, 2 doses at 4 cc's of that stuff is painful - one on each side, so i can't even sit comfortably...

As A Driven Leaf

I say you must, you absolutely must, read Milton Steinberg's epic novel "As A Driven Leaf". Filled with some true Jewish History, bridged with some fictitious but sensible stories, and pulled together with all the elements that make a great story: love, war, redemption, sorrow, and hope. It is a big book with some crazy vocabulary, but it is indeed must-read.

One of my favored quotes, "I am concerned only over one thing. I hope you will be wholehearted, not torn in two."
