I Still Wander Off, But You Always Find Me. Thank You, Lord.So Jesus used this illustration, "If you had 100 sheep and one of them strayed away and was lost in the wilderness, wouldn't you leave the 99 others to go and search for the lost one until you found it? And then you would joyfully carry it home on your shoulders. When you arrived you would call together your friends and neighbors to rejoice with you because your lost sheep was found." Luke 15:3-6.

Just finished the second book of the Mistborn triology, The Well of Ascension.  Wow.  Still epic, still great, but not as good as the first one I think.  What I enjoyed in the first book, The Final Empire, was watching how Kelsier, Vin, and the rest of their group subtly manipulated the noblemen in their society.  It showed the author's accurate grasp of how society's form and evolve, how classes interact with one another; not to mention some great action sequences.  The second book analyzed some of the same concepts, but it just didn't pull me in as closely as the The Final Empire did.  There was less substance to the writing, the twists didn't surprise me, and it had no cut ending because it had to prepare for the third book (I do understand that the latter is almost unavoidable in a trilogy).  Despite my criticisms however, the story was thoroughly enjoyable and after all, isn't that one of the core motivations for independent reading?  Sanderson's writing is always above the level of the average sci-fi novel which is refreshing in a genre that churns out so many cookie-cutter, although enjoyable, fantasy series.  If your open to the genre, I would recommend reading the first two books.  The first one is actually being reprinted with a coupon for $5 off the third book, which makes me a little disappointed that I already own it (although I received mine as a gift, so who can complain).  My only word of advice is to pace yourself a little better than I did, because now I'm stuck waiting until October for the final book to come out.

I went into Barnes and they still don't have the second book. I have a feeling I'm going to need to drive to Orland to pick it up.

RYC: That's EXACTLY the kind of comments I love reading. I'm not just saying this because you're my little brother, I loved the fact that my poem inspired you to critically analyze its content.

I intended the concept of moderation to be portrayed by looking at the fire, but I do like the imagery of basking in its warmth. I might edit it to include that.
