Alright, as you can see from the list below, we finally have pretty much everything done that we want...at least for now. So that raises the question: When do we want to have the very first "No Rules, No Parents Youst House Party"?

I've talked to Holl about it a couple times and he suggested Memorial Day Weekend which would be the weekend of Friday the 23rd. Everybody should have work off Monday (Memorial Day) so we could get drunk Friday and Saturday night and people would still have Sunday to travel back home and do family things (and recover) on Monday.

Please comment or give me a call with suggestions or OK's so we can get this planned and then nobody will have an excuse for not being there (that includes you Frey).

We FINALLY have a closing date

Thursday the 20th.

After a freakin' month and a half of dealing with mortgage loaners and title companies we have a closing date. Unfortunately that is just the beginning of it because here's everything that has to be taken care of before we can get settled in:
  • Get the carpets cleaned
  • Have the appliances delivered
  • Buy and install the new front and back door handles and locks
  • Drive to Peoria, load up everything, drive back to Lafayette and unload everything
  • Prime & paint the kitchen, living room, dining room, master bedroom, office, guest bedroom, and loft
  • Buy and put down the new kitchen, laundry room, entryway and bathroom floor
  • Install all of the new appliances: Fridge, Oven, Microwave, Dishwasher, Washer and Dryer
  • Buy and install the garage door opener
  • Buy and install all the window blinds
  • Buy and replace all the toilet valves and flappers
  • Buy and replace all the ugly beige plugs and light switches with white ones
  • And finally unpack everything
Becoming a homeowner sure is fun.

Also, here are some better pictures of the house taken from the appraisal:

Good News, Everyone

Update: Here's the 2 pictures from the realtor's website of the front of the house and pond in the back

I officially bought a house today! Shocked? Yeah, so am I. Let's rewind a little bit and I'll explain.

It all started pretty much a couple months after I started working here in Peoria. We have several engineers on-site at Caterpillar plants since we do work for them and Lafayette, Indiana just happens to be one of those. Well, my company has been asking me nonstop to transfer there because they really need another guy working there and they knew I was originally from Indiana.

Well initally I didn't really want to because I had just settled in here and Brooke would be moving in soon and she had already started looking for jobs in Peoria so neither one of us wanted to move. Then Brooke graduated and moved in and started looking for a job and we realized that there were really no opportunities for her here because she didn't really have any contacts so she had to settle for a receptionist job making way less money than she could be.

After making about 10 trips back to Indiana in the last 6 months we had really gotten tired of wasting so much time and gas on the road and it really made us want to be back in Indiana where we're closer to friends and family. So we decided to make a stop in Lafayette on January 27th on our way back from my fraternity's 20th anniversary banquet in Indianapolis. We met up with Arik and Mandy and they spent a couple hours driving us around showing us everything Lafayette has to offer. On the drive back to Peoria, Brooke and I pretty much made up our minds that we wanted to move back to Indiana so she started applying for jobs there and I let my company know on Monday January 28th that I would like to reconsider transferring.

Well it turns out that they had already started looking for somebody new to hire and place in Lafayette, but it turns out that fell through so the offer was back on the table for me to take the transfer opportunity if I wanted it. There was only one catch: they wanted me to start work there as soon as possible and by that they meant like 2 weeks. I was able to talk them into letting me wait until the end of February because I told them that I wanted to buy a house because I was tired of throwing my money away in apartments. So they gave me until the end of February as long as I started looking for houses right away.

So Brooke and I spent all last week after work looking online at houses in Lafayette and submitted a list of 15 we wanted to see to a realtor in Lafayette. He lined up all of them for Saturday starting at 9am and so Brooke, my parents and myself spent pretty much the entire day looking at a ton of different houses.

After about eight disappointing ones, we entered one that we absolutely loved. The outside isn't really what we wanted, but the inside and layout more than make up for it. It's a 2-story, 2-car garage house built in 2005 that has 2065 finished sq ft, a large living room, a large formal room/dining room, a large loft room that will be perfect for my parent's pool table (that they're giving to me), a good-sized master bedroom with a huge bathroom, 2 other decent-sized bedrooms with a full bathroom and another half bathroom on the 1st floor. The yard is about a quarter of an acre and one of the best parts is that it has a large pond behind it so we don't have any neighbors immediately behind us.

The house was listed at $115,000 and to be honest, we loved it so much that we were pretty much prepared to offer that. After seeing how much we loved the house, our realtor got on the phone and called to get some more details about it and it turns out that it had just been reduced to $103,500! Apparently it had been a foreclosure house that had been on the market for quite awhile and people had been bidding way under the appraised value so they lowered it in hopes of attracting more buyers. Unfortunately it was being sold through a government website that the only way to buy one of their listed houses is to use their blind auction format. Which meant that we had to place an offer down and hope that we were the highest one, because if we weren't then we're just out of luck because there is no counter-offering. Since the price had just been reduced and the house is really worth about $120,000, I decided to bid $105,000 which is just over the asking price in hopes that nobody would go over that.

Well I found out today that I was the highest bidder which now makes me a homeowner! It's pretty crazy to think about. So now comes all the fun paperwork and money negotiations that go along with buying a house so I'm not sure when we will be moved in but it will most likely be before the end of February.

So I just wanted to apologize to Kyle and everyone else for missing last weekend. I wanted to be there but this whole fiasco came about and prevented it, but look on the bright side, I'm now only 45 minutes away from Indy which means everyone can come to Lafayette and party it up at our house with plenty of room and no neighbors or parents telling us to be quiet.

I'll update later with pictures of everything and exact move in date.

Well it's official

I am now officially a Writer/Moderator for the amazingly fast growing SarcasticGamer.com website. I've been very active in it since it started back in May and in the past few weeks they asked me to submit articles and then they officially made me part of the site on Tuesday. For now I will be contributing articles at least once a day, usually Nintendo news, and moderating the forums. More involvement is bound to come further down the road which will probably involve helping with the infamous parodies and podcasts (a couple of the parodies have over one million views on YouTube and the podcast is now ranked fifth on iTunes in the Video Game Category, just behind G4TV's, IGN's and 1UP's).

Come check out some of my recent articles here and here including a lengthy Super Mario Galaxy review

That's pretty cool...in an extremely toolish kind of way.
