unfortunately, the new apple iphone 3G wasn't everything i was expecting it to be. other than the improved physique and faster internet access, it was the same 'ol iphone. so in the end i had to settle for the LG VU instead. i was more impressed by its smaller size, TV feature, its internet access, which nay not be as lightning fast as the iphone's but will suffice, and its VIDEO SHARE feature, which i thought apple would already have installed in the 3G iphone but of course they just had to save it for the next one to keep the mass comin back for upgrade (yea real smart strategy apple). though right now i decided not to have the tv feature added in our plan just yet because i can watch tv at home or at work, overall i'm happy with my choice. and i'm glad ron talked me out of getting the iphone.

summer's been good to us so far. we've religiously kept track of all the hot movies summer has been generously catering, beginning from iron man up to the most recent dark knight. (both of which were extremely beyond awesome btw). and yes, we are somewhat aware that amc theaters are mercilessly robbing us down because of our weekly trip to the movies. but what the heck, gotta make the best of what summer has to offer right?;) aaand aside from movie marathons, our more-and-more-frequent trips to boba houses is what's been keeping our friendships tight. you can never go wrong with a good thai tea combined with good company. =D

in other news, BRAVO, cable tv's most ambitious when it comes to reality tv shows, came up with a brand spankin' new dance competition [yes, as if cable tv doesn't have enough] called STEP IT UP AND DANCE, hosted by the showgirls star herself, Elizabeth Berkley. my first reaction? *yawn.* as much as my soul is very passionate about the craft of dancing, the show didn't really appeal to me as much anymore. perhaps i've given myself an overdose from watching too much of these. but since learning that another FILIPINA has joined and is aspiring to make us proud, that got me a lot more interested. her name is MICHELLE CAMAYA, and she happens to be a san diego native [sd love once again]. i don't know much about her except that she is an SDSU alumna and is/was possibly a samahan member. now i'm very much an advocate of filipinos making it big in the show business, so a big shout-out to all my fellow filipinos to show some support for michelle! the show airs every thursday 10/9 c on bravo and although viewers doesn't really have a say as to who stays and who goes.. meaning no votation whatsoever, let's keep this uber talented lady in our prayers mmk?
i know, i know. i've become quite the fanatic of reality tv competitions, be it modeling, fashion designing, street dancing, singing contest. you name it, i watch it.
another show marked its season finale, and yep, my pick once again rose victoriously to the top. congratulations to HOLLY KISER for winning MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL! gah i super adore her. though personality-wise, i have to say she still has a lot to learn, career-wise, there's no doubt she has the makings of a supermodel.
i only hope that since this is only the first season of the reality tv show, it won't affect the career of the winner for being a wee bit too overexposed to media, as to what usually happens to AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL winners. come to think of it.. where are all the winners now? are they REALLY on their way towards the top model status?
well, turns out i wasn't the only one wondering. so when i did a little research a while back, i found that most of the winners aren't even being busied by the modeling world, much to my disappointment. sure they've booked gigs here and there, but unfortunately not gigs i have imagined future top models to be booking. i was expecting more in the lines of becoming muses of top fashion designers or becoming the faces of prominent clothing lines or cosmetics (not counting the covergirl gig they've landed as part of their prize from the show). some of them even wandered away from modeling and into the world of acting. hmm.. america's next top model or america's next top actress?
then again, MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL was smart enough to learn from the mistakes of the ANTM and came up with a different, not sure if better, but quite a more efficient format:
1. america gets to vote. uh-huh. they believe america is smarter with such decision-making. nyaha. what i joke. i mean, take AMERICAN IDOL for one GREAT example. i was never impressed at how things would always turn out at the show. those that do not, in the least bit, deserve to go surprisingly gets eliminated, while those who obviously suck manages to stay, even longer than most would anticipate. it's become more of a popularity contest rather than one that's based on actual skills and level of performanship. and no, i am so NOT bitter over the recent unexpected exit of ramiele malubay. truth is i've always have the same sentiments about the show regardless. nevertheless, though SUPERMODEL slightly underwent the same questionable scheme (slightly since the judges do pick the bottom three contestants and it's up to the voters to eliminate one from those three- definitely much more efficient), in the end i think america did make the right choice with the four finalists, moreover, with the actual winner. so who am i to complain right?
2. in the auditions, SUPERMODEL did not only look into the physical aspect for model potential, but also into the hopefuls' SKILLS - something that ANTM almost always never does, thinking they are god who can create miracles in a span of weeks (pure conceit i gotta say). SUPERMODEL made sure that the contestants have at least an idea of how to walk, pose, carry clothes, and exude charisma- not necessarily expertly, but definitely workable for improvement in a short amount of time.
3. the challenges aren't as over-the-top. i haven't been really watching ANTM as much nowadays. and so when i heard how the models for the current cycle had to pose wearing fresh, raw meat, i was in total aghast! i mean WTF? are the ANTM makers' creative juices running out that they had to resort to nasty options to prove some kind of point?? talk about preposterous! the makers of SUPERMODEL obviously do not have their heads up in the clouds like these people and made sure to stick to the reality that is ACTUAL modeling.
4. yep, the drama is still there, but tyra the tyrant isn't. makes a HUGE difference, enough said.
eh, there could be more. but these are the most with significance that i can think of. either way, we are all ENTITLED to our own opinions. it just so happened that these are MINE.
