...because Indiana and Balin are part bobcat, and have stub tails....Allen asked why he had a halo, and I said because he puts up with me. As you now see, the silliness is over, and we are speaking again...he came home bearing gifts of Cote de Or 86% Cacao...*Grin* Pax,y'all!

| Working Weekends can Be Hazardous to Your Health... Then again, they can be mighty fun!! My close friend, and fellow deputy minister ( she's going to be the Arts Minister for our Kingdom in awhile) Veronica, was kind enough to haul me up to the SF Bay area (for our annual Kingdom Arts&Sciences Collegium) on thursday night, so we could get an early start friday morning at the site. The motel we stayed at wasn't optimal...but the sheets were clean, at least. I don't know why or how, but the room seemed to have a gnat problem. And the people upstairs didn't seem to realize the motel wasn't as modern as some, and didn't have a concrete floor between floors.Elephants have sounded more graceful and light-footed. Veronica and I managed to get some sleep, however.A quick stop at Starbucks the next day, and the world was looking kinda rosy again. Thinking on that tangent, time was, not so long ago, when someone mentioned Starbuck, they were talking about the 1970's science fiction character on Battlestar Galactica. Of course, now he's a she, Galactica's history has been turned inside out, and it's even better than before. Except in some ways, like virtues. What ever happened to plain, good old loyal camaraderie? Why does it have to be twisted into something sexual? Don't try to tell me it's just "human". That's a cop-out answer. I'm not against sex, I like it alot, but I guess some people just can't differentiate between a sexual partner and an ultra-close relationship/friendship that goes far deeper than sex and is more like close siblings.Go figure. *laugh* Ok, enough of tangents, back to the weekend. My weekend was also a working weekend- I'm a deputy minister of Sciences for our Kingdom. I spent a lot of time fulfilling my boss, Godrich- the Minister of Sciences- work requests like helping to put up pavilions for classrooms, hauling pavilions/ poles, taping off space and pounding stakes, helping to do the minutia of setting up classes , and helping out where I could, plus teach a class myself. Oh, and also doing the heraldry shouts at the beginning and end of the classes. Three days of fun, talking to friends I hadn't seen in quite some time, talking to others I hadn't gotten to talk to for the same. Veronica's boss, the Kingdom Arts Minister Mistress Eliana ( and an extremely close friend of mine ) blessed us with two large cartons of See's Candy peppermints, for which I am truly grateful! Mixed with bananas, they really keep up the energy when it's flagging.*GRIN* There was a vigil/party on friday night for a friend of mine who had his Laurel ( for Arts- his forte' is dancing) ceremony on Saturday at noon, then there was a Pelican ceremony for another friend on saturday afternoon ( for Service to the Kingdom. See this link for more info: http://www.westkingdom.org/index.php?alias=&office=PeerageOrders . ) Friday night also saw the victory over the ferocious water spit monsters...after asking repeatedly, and receiving reassurances from the Park Rangers that yes, the water sprinklers had been turned off, it was found that that was not the case! *laughing* Friday night, just about 9 pm when parties were in full swing, and dinners being eaten, the massive water-spitting monsters popped up from their hidden lairs, inundating a brave Duke ( His Grace, Fredrick of Holland), and many others with their wet, cold surprises. There were also several pavilions and tents who sat upon said lairs, but were quickly tamed beneath buckets and pails which were immediately sat upon to contain the powerful, wily beasts. I kept one such beast under my shoe for a good ten minutes ( and assisted some young ladies in showering at their request...*G*), until being assisted by my friend, Mistress Tangwystl, who had a water containing apparatus with her. Saturday started early with classes, then Court for the Laurel ceremony, more classes, then court again for the Pelican ceremony; that night was the scene of a massive pig roast at the "Lily and Gladius Tavern" ( which also is " The Saucy Wench Tavern" on other nights)- which had been cooking all day on a spit- and much fun and WONDERFUL food was had by all attending. Sometime later, some folks had too much fun, if you catch my drift.*laugh*. Then there was a few more classes on sunday, and tear-down which needed to be done by 4 pm that afternoon so...it was a looong weekend. Lots of bruises and tired, but satisfied.*laugh* After packing up, we and Eliana hit Fabrics R Us ( wonderful fabric store! ), got some dinner, and then went to see the fledgling falcons living on City Hall in downtown San Jose. Unfortunately I got home later than I was planning on, my husband got miffed at me because I didn't call sooner ( my cell had died), we had a fight, and now we're not speaking. I don't want to tick him off more than I have, so, I hope it blows over soon. Life's too short for stupid stuff like that.

| Time Flies....Well...it's been awhile since I've posted. In that time, I've continued my work with the International Blessed Broodmare Project. We've rescued more horses, but lost some, too, unfortunately. I'm currently painting resin frog/toads to raise money for the IBBP. I've already painted and sold 3: one as a poison dart frog, one as a school mascot ( Alvin Tigers) and a third wearing a GreenBay Packer jersey with Brett Farve's number. My friend, Dede, gave me a horse- which, because of my location, the horse has to stay with her. He's a beautiful boy, though, a buckskin quarterhorse. While there, I acquired a kitten- nephew to my eldest cat, Indiana, but he's only 1/4 bobcat, rather than the 1/2 Indy is. The newest member of our family is named Balin. He is now 9 weeks old, and SO cute...except for those darned claws...LOL. Anyhow, here's some pics. Pax, y'all | | |
| Holidays Over!!Now begins the work of getting our local SCA Court of Love done in style. I've gotten 61 tickets done. I'll see if these sell before I make any more. This year's theme is ,"Shakespeare:His Times and Plays", wherein one can attend in Elizabethan dress, or garbed as a character from one of Ye Olde Bard's plays. Should be fun.The Lady of Love and Beauty is a real gem. A LADY. Gracious, pretty inside and out. It's an honor and a privilege to be her autocrat for this event. The Feastocrat is really going all out. She's even going to serve bear. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you read right, bear.Hey, in Elizabethan times, bear baiting was a favorite past time. They had to do something with the ones who lost. Feeding it to the dogs would've been a waste, right? Didn't convince you? I totally understand- and agree. The upper class didn't eat bear. But it's not bad, actually.
Went and saw Sweeney Todd today. Standing ovation for Johnny Depp, I must say. Even with all that blood, it was a pleasure to watch him and Helena Bonham Carter work. And sing. Don't forget the singing. It's definitely a musical. I'd only seen bits and pieces of the original play with Angela Landsbury, and I had a general idea of what the story was about. I liked the idea that there was only one entree with only a few side dishes. So many movies nowadays are so convoluted with their storylines, trying to keep the happy attention of everyone. If something is simple, but done extremely well, it doesn't matter. Your audience will be entertained- unless they have ADD or HADD, or something similar- which I won't go into, as I'm not qualified.:) Such is Sweeney Todd. If not for the adult subject matter- and yes, I consider the bloody, graphic visions of cutting throats adult content- those under the age of 16 would even understand it. It's simply done extremely WELL. Tim Burton has done a bang up job as always. It might've been fun to see Angela Landsbury somewhere in there, but that's just me and my nostalgic self. Pax, y'all!

| MARES SAVED!!Our November 2 deadline has come and gone...and we've done the near-impossible: The Blessed Broodmare Project and Friends have saved these beautiful pregnant mares from slaughter!! But there are more mares and foals to be saved elsewhere. Until PMU mares and foals are free from the danger of going to slaughter, we will work diligently to save them. For those of you who contributed to these mares' lives, THANK YOU!! Your efforts have saved unborn horses from senseless slaughter. I'm very happy today. Pax,y'all!
