This is a compilation of several clips we've done over the past years, obviously throughout the four seasons. All of them are related to Ninjutsu disciplines

In the winter clip I'm doing some Jo staff drills. the opening stance is one of innocence to lull the enemy into false security. the blows are sharp, and fast, and generally to the point. The next scene is is me doing nunchaku in complete darkness (hence the night vision on the camera.)

The Spring clip opens with me preforming an abdominal katana bend (please don't do at home). The blade is 420 solid stainless steel, but obviously has the ability to bend. The next scene is a sai form encompassing various Ninjutsu attacks, counters, and counter strikes. Next is an Iron body demonstration done with 1" X  1" rods...again don't do at home...but there is a trick to it

The summer clip opens with some target practice using the blade of a traditional Ninja-to blade. The next scene shows target practice using Shuriken, and throwing knives roughly at 14' one rotation. Next is a clip of me doing some nunchaku stuff....it was pretty bad back then

Finally autumn shows a Taijutsu (Shinobi hand to hand combat) form. There are throat/groin grabs, arm locks, pressure point strikes, and slight ground fighting techniques displayed. Notice the innocent stance that is used.

    Hope you guys all enjoyed!!

  • AAANNNND Yet another page page in the book Labeled "Martial Arts Diversity begins to turn.

For the past several weeks we have been incorporating the art of Escrima/Kali into our curriculum. I have to say after working with such weapons as the Bo, Jo, Katana, and Shuriken, the escrima sticks have to be my new favorite, (second only to my nunchaku...or course). The amount of coordination training you can receive from the escrima is quite amazing.

The main tactic behind the introduction of Escrima was to promote a healthy, and efficient variation to the classic hard block which we call a parry. Around three or so years ago, I was very very much the "Karateka". In the words of one of my instructors, I was too much the rock, and lacked to be the leaf. My stances were solid, my punches and kicks snapped powerfully, but tensely, and I was rigid. The "hard block" was a favorite out of my repetoiure. Over the years however, I gradually evolved out of my Yang habits if you will, in search of a more balanced, and harmonious outlook on the Martial Arts. The introduction to modern military defence systems such as Krav Maga, and MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) helps alot, primarily because they help you understand that as weapons/threats evolve, such as handguns, rifles, automatic weapons......Cars so must your fighting evolve in order to adapt to these new threats. Because we live in an age where almost anyone can obtain a gun or modern razor sharp knife....or the car...., relying on slow tense/powerful movements such as the traditional hard karate block can get you killed. Using a parry may not offer the damage a hard block can, but it does do the fudementally important thing: keeping your enemies' weapons away from you, be it a fist, knife, gun- muzzle,  dog, etc. Some people have asked me. Is it worth sacrificing power for speed? My answer is yes! Although this may sound like I'm lacking the whole yin/yang method thats really not my intention. Sometimes I like to answer the question like this."Its worth sacrificing power, for faster power"

***I'll add more to this later tonight, I have to go to class now!!***

  • Alas I find myself in the midst of discovery. Last Friday I taught class for the first hour and a half, and after that, Reshi Master Brooks took over, and as usual!! which means for the past ~9~! years I was the uki, which meant I had everything demonstrated on me from joint locks, pressure point strikes, and even flesh grabs throws, and all that good stuff. After we were done with the drills, Sensei said to me in front of the class, for the past nine years you've been "the uki", and although on first glance that may seem a bad thing, I will say without a doubt that aside from the black belts, you know the most about D-C-F. (Dirty close-quarter-fighting). and I decided I would gift you with that from the beginning.

So yeah I thought that was a pretty cool thing that happened this past Friday!! All that torture finally paid off!!
