Modest Proposal...

I took this picture from my office window - I don't notice all the trees from ground level:

Last week, I filed my taxes with taxact.com (I recommend it - it's free).  Have you ever wondered how the government spends your money?  It's on page 86 of your Form 1040:

Social Security & Medicare - 36%

Defense - 23%
Social Programs - 19%
Development - 12%
Interest - 8%
Law Enforcement - 2%

Humble Pie...

Recently, I got my first jury summons: it reminded me of class - you try to stay awake and hope they don't call on you.  After hours of waiting, a lawyer explained our case: a traffic cop was suing a driver who hit her.  I was surprised how many people had (or claimed to have) relatives involved in serious car accidents.  Some jurors made outrageous statements to disqualify themselves.  Since I was #17 out of 18, the lawyer did not get to me - I went home and received a $6.00 check for my day of work...

Golden Boy...

Well, another year has passed - it seems like they go by faster and faster.  As a kid, I remember thinking that a week was a long time.  I've made a few semi-serious resolutions for 2007 - they're loosely connected:

1. Spend more money.

2. Eat fewer high-sodium foods.

3. Stop caring about sports, except for really important games, like once a year.

Silver Charm...

Last month, I went to Astroworld's auction, and I bought a few souvenirs.  The summer before college, I had a job there - standing outside and selling drinks.  There was an ongoing fight: Astroworld would count time "off the clock" and some cashiers would retaliate.  After that summer, I swore that I would never go back.  However, I was still sad when the park closed.  It's a little weird how people there work so hard without complaining, and it's a little weird how people in college trust each other so much.

Memory Lane...

Recently, I got my wisdom teeth removed - it wasn't too bad.  It takes a few days of eating soup and jello to remind you how good "real food" tastes.  In the same way, I miss having a "winter break" after not having one this year...

Happy New Year!
