| the National
I have been listening to the National during finals week. It is amazing. It is progressive music that documents the darkness, the confusion, and the general acceptance of life as it comes because that's all we really can do. Faith by taking day by day what he gives to us.

Some Lyrics:
Secret Meeting
And so and now I'm sorry I missed you
I had a secret meeting in the basement of my brain
Baby we'll be fine
I wake up without warning and go flying around the house
In my sauvignon fierce, freaking out
Take a forty-five minute shower and kiss the mirror
And say, look at me
Baby, we'll be fine
All we gotta do is be brave and be kind
All the Wine
I'm a birthday candle in a circle of black girls
God is on my side
Cuz I'm the child bride
I'm so sorry but the motorcade will have to go around me this time
Cuz God is on my side
And I'm the child bride | | |
| I am writing a blog post because I am procrastinating. I am writing a blog post because I've been sick all day and I've now have a pile of school to do, yet I wish to evade it until midnight. I am writing a blog post because I can't think of anything to write. I don't know what to say... Nonetheles, I am writing this blog post to make myself feel better.
ok, now to business, the actually blogging of it all. let's go with a few dictionary entries:
1. What PHC students do off campus: everything they can't do ON campus... like wading in icky mud ponds... like climbing anything... like wearing normal clothing for a hot summer day... you know, the usual stuff. Here is some scandalous evidence: Afore mentioned, in the picture above, when examined closely, you will see that some students have waded in water, one is napping (BAD), and the others are putting their feet in the air (EVEN BADDER), might i also mention that they are out of dress code? (bare feet, shorts, tshirts, etc)
2. Heck - this is what some people say when they go to PHC. It's a sanitized form of another word - where NO ONE but those who dare to disagree with you are going.
3. Crazy Delicious is a phrase among other phrases that should be used frequently in conversation here instead of "it's the bomb" or "that's so cool"
4. Chicken - this is the trademark of PHC eating dinery. If you find yourself eating chicken, and are surrounded by armies of refueling nerds (like myself) you have probably wondered into the only cafeteria on the campus of Patrick Henry College, Purcellville, VA. We have the privilege of eating chicken day in and day out here. It's not only a cheap source of protein and other things, it also serves to symbolize the ideal conservative America: chicken and beef. throw out the fresh organic vegetables- BAD! Why only chicken? well, steak IS a bit pricey. And, it's also hard to secretly raise and slaughter such large livestock on a tiny campus like ours. Level B of Founders serves as a vibrant chicken raising farm with artificial lighting. To get to it, simply bribe one of your fellow student workers to take you down into the abyss by way of the golden elevator when no one is looking. Without having to outsource its chicken needs, our cafeteria has reduced its food imports by 80%. what a lifesaver!
5. Xanga - If ever you read a blog post on Xanga, you are bearing witness to a procrastinating student who puts you, (the wandering liberal journalist) at a higher priority then our beloved and quickly disappearing professors.
Ok that's enough. I've come to the conclusion that this xanga has resulting in sounding very cynical, which is not at all a representation of how i truly feel about PHC. Heck (see!) - i just wrote this... wasted my time... might as well post the thing. also danae wants me to clean the good energy lounge- it's not good energy when it's messy!

I probably should be studying but i'm not. that's because i'm an idiot. so i've included an elephant, courtesy of the world wide web (no i'm not that stupid, although i DID eat dinner with an ugly little wooden spoon that got carved sometime while listening to the inferno...)

| that invisible power that is NOT the Holy Spiritthe feeling is so temperal, uncatchable, invisible, and without substance. yet it makes a whole lot of difference, whether we allow it to affect us or not. feelings are not bad. no, they are a glorious and powerful sense within us. and in the right place, it's an amazing trip that points us to God and everything beautiful in life with eyes WIDE OPEN. but that's all they are. they are without substance without the truth that incites such emotion.
and not to use Jude v8 out of context, but this speaks to me on my frivilous emotions: "Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones."
let not our strong feelings be justification for foolishness.
on the issue of the fleeting feeling...
i am in love.
yes, with photoshop :)

| Some thoughts on Ladies-only chapel
Today we had a special “Ladies only” chapel at PHC. Mrs. Graham addressed us on love. Overall, it was an excellent time of teaching and questions and answers.
There are several random points I want to note:
à How few women there really are at this college: I looked around and Town Hall was pretty scarce. Poor guys... lucky us.
àMrs. Graham told us about her multiple engagements and how any of them could have pulled through to marriage. What a fragile thing life is. The likelihoodof marriage to a particular person can change at a whim. Whew! I’d trust God on this one. Otherwise, I’d be a fretful mess of wrought worry!
à If we are driven by our desires (for comfort, marriage, or what else), we will harmfully sin against and distort others.
à What was the significant difference- what proved affirmation for matrimony? None other than simply learning to listen to God.
So what were the practical points? (somewhat of an LOL jumble)
Legalistic do’s and don’ts / helpful pointers:
- Don’t touch boys’ legs, do not touch boys’ legs
- Don’t masturbate (a response to a question), do not masturbate
- Don’t follow your feelings, do listen to God
Coming back to #2 of the practical points, I just want to note how much respect welled up in me for the asker of that question. (In point, is it okay for Christian women to masturbate?) First of all in a campus of 300~ students, I’m sure there are plenty of people who have differing opinions. “Calling the bluff” elicits a stance on the issue and provides a scriptural viewpoint. Like many other Christian ethic standpoints, just by addressing and responding to the issue gives God’s point and view rise to authority. Therefore, we can now further bring ourselves to the lordship of Christ in our bodies. The question was answered very well. (Very briefly put: that it is wrong bc it demonstrates an unwillingness to wait on God's timing. I also read into this that it is more of an act of selfishness than that of love. In my opinion, sex is an expression of love and is best experienced when done so in the context of marriage - sex is the gift that gives back)
Note: I think the best part about this question being asked, as shocking as it may have been (come on now, this is PHC), is that it implies a moral obligation to glorify God in the issue. I am not going so far as to say that masturbation is complete evil. Neither will I embrace it. All I’m saying is that issues like this, and plenty of other “fuzzy things” should be examined in light of what God reveals in His Word.
Is it more important to create a definitive response on this issue, or is it more important that we take a stance on it either way and fully believe in the stance that it takes and only take that stance if it aligns with the Gospel? By doing this, are we simply making things okay for ourselves, thus conveniently diminishing any feelings of guilt?
How should we treat guys at PHC? We want to honor them with modesty and seek to serve them as sisters. Yet what about submission? (sure if you open the door for me it's being manly and i'll take it.. what next?) Submission is part of marriage. Yet as single women, we will allow single men to lead. What is a good balance? How can we honor the men but also maintain a healthy level of submission? | | |
