You think the people of this country exist to provide you with position. I think your position exists to provide those people with freedom. -- Mel Gibson as William Wallace in "Braveheart" A good quote. A very good quote. Would you agree with me if I should say that our politicians have become so self-absorbed in their positions as Senators, Representatives, or as any kind of governmental "leaders" that they have forgotten that their job is to ensure the welfare of the People and not of themselves and their repsective parties? Have we forgotten what true freedom is? Or are we used to assuming that the way we live is the epitome of liberty when it in reality it may be the opposite? I fear that our freedom diminishes every year. I am now beginning to question our government's actions in airport security. Recently, an airline terminal announced that they now have a big-screen X-Ray machine that will be used on every passenger to scan for any weapons (or nail clippers or anything pointy, for crying out loud). This particular X-Ray is not the kind that shows your skeletal structure. No, it only removes one's clothing; exposing a person's nude body to the security agents. I believe that this is, without a doubt, an invasion of our privacy. Since when did every citizen become subject to such humiliating scrutiny by airline security and/or the government? We must not allow the continuation of this unjust action by these people. If we bend over and take it like sissies, then we might as well kiss our individual liberties good bye. Be warned, if you fly to Phoenix, Arizona,* you will be standing before some security guard virtually naked. Every part of you will be exposed to whoever is in front of the computer screen... watching you stand there as you are asked to lift your arms... or other areas. (I think it was an airline in Phoenix.) |
