I have no life

A new job means having to go through the learning pains of adjusting to a different culture and methodology.  It sucks bupkiss.  But the co-workers are great.  The admins here are so freaking fantastico.  They make my life a zillion times easier and my colleagues are so sweet.  Or maybe it's just this department, who knows.  But for the meantime, I'm okay.  I'm learning to succeed at my new den of tedium.

However, since this new employment ... I've been slacking BIG TIME at home with chores. I've been putting off doing the dishes, or cleaning up the living room .. I haven't even waxed my floors in a month!  A WHOLE MONTH PEOPLE!  I think the last time I sparkled up the place was during my week of nothingness as I hung out at home like a baeksoo .... a good 3 weeks ago.  I mean, the apartment's not dirty, just messy.  And the poor Mr!  I've been so drained, I haven't cooked anything in the past 2 weeks and we've been ordering in for the most part.  He's been such a great trooper ... supporting me and bringing home dinner when he knows I'm going to be late.  I  the Mr!

I will be giving our apartment the full spring cleaning treatment, stocking our fridge with food and making dinner all week (hopefully).  Maybe I'll even go to the range and hit a few balls.  I've become such an old lady, but it's the little things that make me happy!

Have a great weekend ya'll!

It's been 4 days here at the new job and it's both rewarding and miserable all at the same time.  For example, the fringe benefits, compensation and law firm culture is great.  It's a business casual firm which means I don't have to go to work in a stuffy suit.  It's also full of lovely sweet people.  I know, I know, hard to believe ...

On Monday I had a 2 hour orientation with HR filling out paperwork.
On Tuesday I had an all day 7 hours training session with Operations and then was requested by an attorney to put in some OT with a project.  The first thing that popped into mind, "Uhm, okay buddy but I JUST learned how to punch in and out and let's not even talk about trying to maneuver the Intranet."  It was pretty brutal.  ALL, and I mean ALL work product is saved to a database and retrieving documents for review is a 10 step process!  And why do law firms differentiate associates from attorneys!  Go figure!

Yesterday I trained for another 1.5 hours and then was put back to work with meetings and just what exactly is International Trade anyways!  Around 6:30 I had to get a fax out to a client and since the assistants leave at 5:30 here (unless we request them to do overtime), I printed out the docs and wandered around the floor at least 10 times before reluctantly asking a fellow colleague where the fax machine was.  She looked at me and said, we don't have fax machines, we use rightfax.  Everything's done online.  1.  I wasn't given a rightfax id and pw so I can't access it from my computer.  2.  HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE A FAX MACHINE!  She then gives me this look like a light bulb went off in her head.  She takes me to the copy center room and asked the guy to send my fax, "the old fashioned way".  I sure did feel ancient!

Today ... today was a bit better.  More projects and I'm running in and out of meetings all day.  How am I supposed to get any billable hours this way!  I can't wait to get out of the International Trade department!

Hurray, it's Friday tomorrow!

Raise some hell

I knew this day would come .... eventually ... the day where I let out all my frustrations and unhappiness out on my crappy firm.  Today was it.  I had all of 3 more days left before I was out .... and for the past 2 weeks or so I've been busting my arse trying to leave detailed notes about each case on our database system.  I've been finishing up motions, briefs, coverletters so I don't leave my peers with overwhelming crap otherwise known as my daily to do list.  Not to mention I've been asked to go over each case in detail with the respective person who's taking over my files.  Plus I have to do this and that and this and that ... and it's been pretty overwhelming.  But I really didn't mind because I respected my coworkers and because I wanted to leave with their respect as well, a job well done.  You know?

But it went down the drain today.  The nasty boss man said that he would take over a few of the "complicated, document intensive" cases instead of handing over to a newbie.  Then yesterday he's asking me to do all but everything before I go (it takes me 3 days to normally do this and over a week for anyone else)  on top of everything else.  We were also supposed to have a company farewell dinner, but he cancelled that because "he has too much to catch up on".  I won't go into too much detail about how he used my family to get free advertising in Korea and how he pretty much had the Mr. and I going insane trying to complete his stupid websites (that included an insane amount of programming and ooodles of pages of text) ..all of which I researched and created.  I won't even go into detail about how he bad mouths my father in front of me.  I won't go into detail about how he insulted my coworkers mother at her wedding.  I won't go into detail about how he nit picks about coming into the office 10 minutes late, but doesn't bat an eye about us staying till the wee hours of the night.  I won't go into detail about how he sulks around the office, calling me a traitor.  How he talks trash about the previous employees who quit while working under him.  How he leaves everyday at 3pm to play golf but always complains about how busy he is.  Today, he had someone tell me I had to give him the run down of all my cases with him before two with the invoicing report.  It's not very urgent since I've already done the work and it's a waiting game now ... but no.  It had to be 2pm today.  So I tried to explain ... there are MUCH MORE URGENT THINGS THAT NEED TO GET DONE.  But no.  He just has to have his way.

So I let him have it.  I grabbed all my belongings and left the office 3 days early and I'm never looking back.  SCREW YOU, YOU PIECE OF MINDLESS CRAP!  You deserve every hour and every day of hell trying to take over all the work I left in that god forsaken office.  F U.

So I'm home now.  I was in the office at 9am.  But I couldn't stand to stay in there one more minute.  It's freedom beyond freedom, and now I have a week and half to enjoy doing nothing.  So, uhm, how was your morning?
