| Marathon #9I FINALLY DID IT!!!! I QUALIFIED FOR THE BOSTON MARATHON!!!!! I ran my 9th full marathon at the Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon. Results: |
| 4027 | Sherry | | Fremont | CA | | 26 | F | 3:36:40 | 3:38:28 | 963 | 162 | 41 | 62.5% | 8:16 | 2107 | 8425 | 49:50 | 1:46:37 | 2:53:02 | I've been plagued by injuries up to the day of the race. At one point, I thought my knee was gonna explode. But every time I felt pain, I just prayed. Thank you, God!!!! I hated the slanted roads ... it made it easy to get injured, but I won't complain. When I crossed the finish line, I cried. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. Praise the Lord!!!! | | |
| running updateI know ... I haven't updated in way too long! Short update: After coming off of my awesome high in Sac ... I fell in love with running even more, but I've found that I've given myself more and more pressure during my training runs cuz I so badly wanna qualify for Boston. I wanna remember the pure joy of running ... not just for time!!! In March I ran my 4th LA marathon, but this time with Students Run Oakland, where we had trained Oakland high school students to run a marathon. It was a very humbling experience and I made some awesome friends. Today, I ran my 4th Bay to Breakers in 59:01 minutes. Not my fastest time, but decent. I lost a few minutes in the beginning from dodging all those darn walkers. ARGH ... annoying. In two weeks, I'll be running my 9th marathon in San Diego. I feel the pressure!!!! That's my update! | | |
| California International Marathon | JUST ANOTHER MIRACLE IN MY LIFE .... When I was in high school, I remember feeling so good when I ran 4 miles at swim camp. I remember falling onto the floor one morning after running 3 miles. When I was in college, I ran the Aids 10K for the first time in my life. I couldn't move for the next day. A 5 minute walk to class took me 30 minutes. When I hit 10 miles for the first time in my training in 2004, I thought I was finally a runner. When I finished my first half marathon, I wanted to run a marathon. I said that after that marathon, I could cross it off my to-do list and not have to run it again. After I ran my first marathon, I was in love. 7 marathons, 2 knee injuries, 1 tendonitis, and 1 sprained ankle later, I am more in love with running than I have ever been! Love hurts, but it sure is worth it! I took 25 minutes off my PR this past March and came 8 minutes away from qualifying for Boston, something I thought was way out of reach for a long time. This is a big kick to "getting older sucks'" butt. This was my fastest race since I started running long distances at the age of 22. THIS WAS THE BEST RACE I'VE EVER RUN IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! After being so frigging worried about my calf, I was only able to sleep 2 hours the night before cuz I just kept worrying! Finally, God said to me, "Do you not trust me? Why are you worrying so much?" At 2:30am, I fell sleep. The next day, I ran the biggest miracle of my life. You probably think I won the gold at the freakin Olympics ... but yes, that's how I feel. And if I could relive that moment at mile 20, when I realized that I was gonna PR big time, I would. I just wanna play it over and over again like a video. Man, I bet that's how Olympians feel. Check out my other blog, al552as, for the complete story! I will update with race pics once I got them! |

| My left calf!I haven't updated in awhile. Since my last update, I registered for CIM. Everything felt great until 11/17. I had gone clubbing the night before to celebrate an early bday. Then I was sposed to run 18 miles the next day. I got through 12 miles and my left calf was about to give out. I was so disappointed, but not discouraged cuz I figured it could be from my tired legs and 4 hours of sleep. So on my 26th birthday (holy cow, I can't believe I said 26), I decided to treat myself to a nice 18 mile birthday present. But noooo ... at mile 8, that same left calf pain was ACHING! I managed to get through 12 miles before thinking that my muscle was gonna tear or something. I was so mad at myself. That afternoon, I forced myself to run 6 more miles to make the 18. Ugh ... it was a defeating attempt. I did it, but I wasn't proud of it. PLUS, a bird pooped on me that morning after running. I've never gotten pooped on before and it happens on my 26th birthday. A nice bomb ... yikes. In my worrying, I decided to get a full body massage followed 2 days later by a foot massage (where I told them to concentrate on massaging on my calves). My runs thereafter were alright, but they didn't feel great. I just wanna finish the race now. Sigh ... always a problem before every race. Anyway, I don't wanna lose the fun of each marathon, so I refuse to give in to my worries. I will go into this with great excitement ... I hope! | | |
| CIM or not?Well, my mileage has slowly increased to 20+ a week. It's ok seeing as how almost 3 months ago, I couldn't walk. But also sad. Within those three months, I skipped out on two scheduled half marathons. I guess I coulda run the SJ Rock N Roll, but I wanted to save my ankle for the California International Marathon December 2. I usually run the Vegas marathon that weekend, but this year, I opted for this one since the Vegas one sucked last year. My decision to run CIM has to made by 10/30. That's their deadline until they increase the price. The ligament in my left ankle still gets sore when I do tempo runs and sprints. It especially gets sore during hill runs. It also gets sore when I work out at the gym. But it's not a soreness that bothers me that much. I still ice my ankle every morning and evening. So the question is ... should I run it? I for sure am running the LA marathon. I run it every year. And this year is special cuz I'll be running it with Students Run Oakland. Running with those high schoolers have been very encouraging. I can't wait to see them reach their goals a few months from now. But I know that I won't PR at that race cuz I'll be running with them. I need a race where I can try to PR in. But judging from my current times, I'm not sure if that's gonna happen by 12/2. But I wanna run! I dunno what to do and I don't see my orthopedic surgeon until a few weeks from now, so he can't make my decision either. Hmmm .... If I do run it, is anyone gonna be in Sac that weekend? | | |
