Unfortunately I am now reachable at any time by work, but it's still a fun new toy.

I'm watching James Marsters on Smallvile. It's totally disconcerting - where's his British accent? How can he be in the sun? Hehe.

OK so I have never watched One Tree Hill but I just saw a preview and it looked quite racy for the WB. more like skinimax. how old are these kids supposed to be?

******************

Work is ok these days. It comes and it goes. Hopefully it will get better.

I will be in NYC next Tuesday until Saturday or Sunday. Give me a ring if you are there too!

Saturday, October 29, 2005

So I've been getting in quite a bit of trouble for not updating my xanga - so here goes.

For a month this summer I attended the Tuck Business Bridge program up at Dartmouth. It was a great experience, I learned a ton and I was lucky enough to be sponsored (and paid) by my work to go. There's nothing like doing homework and knowing you're getting a paycheck.

It was a really great course and I came out of it gung-ho on applying to business school next fall (to start in fall '07).

I came back to work and got a promotion - Manager of Board Development and Executive Projects - it then took about a month and a half to negotiate the raise - wasn't all that i wanted but was still really good.

Matt is applying to business school right now - he did early action at Tuck and is working on a few other apps - he rocked the GMAT - I am crossing my fingers!

Like the rest of the country, I grow more and more infuriated by the day with our current government. I wish I had done more during the last election - done anything during the one before that. I am starting to realize that progressive people can't just stand by because they think government has been tainted by special interests and the religious right - that is exactly the reason we CAN'T stand by!

So many passionate, civic minded people who are so smart choose to work in the private sector, or like me in the nonprofit one, and try to avoid the government as much as possible because they are so sickened by it. What if we had done that with the holocaust? I don't mean to be glib here - but we cannot stand by and let people who are the very root of what is NOT American - closed minded and unaccepting of differences - continue to rule this country. It will not change by itself. Those that we oppose are doing a much better job of getting young people involved in politics than we are - they are the next generation of government unless we do something about it!

That being said, I'm not running out to run for office just yet. I definitely want to become more involved in politics, but I am also really excited to work on this new project with the president and ceo of my nonprofit. They're working with a bunch of other nonprofit leaders on creating a truly new progressive era - a time like FDR's new deal and Johnson's great society during which policy and the way we change our country take a turn. We want to engage the government, nonprofit sector, philanthropic sector and private sector into finding a new way to solve problems. Its really exciting. I feel like I'm at the start of a movement. I went to a dinner this week at Swanee Hunt's house - David Gergen attended - it was ridiculous - all of those smart people in the room, I am so excited to see this take off and am really excited about my work in it.

That has made me really question business school. I would really want to have a good notion of what I want to do under my belt before I went as well as go to a place that is really on the cutting edge. This isn't about treating a nonprofit like a private firm and maximizing internal value. Its about organization's working not for change in a single location - but always for the greater good and changing your operations to meed that goal.

So I am thinking of waiting a bit on business school - pay down my own loans and such a little more. Really understand what I want. Maybe wait until Matt is out.

It's all up in the air! :)

I bought a new laptop - my current one has duct tape on it! I got a really good deal on Dell.com - so good, its not even tehre anymore! The same computer is about $600 more now!

Dell 600m

Pentium M Processor 735 1.70 GHz 400MHz FSB 14.1 in XGA with 32MB Video, 60GB hard drive, 1GB ram, dvd/cd-rw combo

It should be here on Wednesday, I'm so excited!!

I recommend everyone watch Kung Fu Hustle - it's hilarious, I really enjoyed it.

I'll try to be better about updating :)

Tuesday, August 02, 2005

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when your partner is patient and never willing to give up on you.

You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic.

Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.

Your risk of cheating is low. Even if you're tempted, you'd try hard not to do it.

You think of marriage as something that will confine you. You are afraid of marriage.

In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted.

I can't wait to go ride it and burn off the ritz and nutella I am currently eating.

Oh yes, and I'm still reading Pynchon. It's taking forever - its like reading a sonnet in prose form, the man has a way with sentences. You have to get into the rhythm of it.
