  • Final Music Video

    My first attempt at working with our pictures and trying to capture a little video turned out just ok. I played around with it some more and after a couple days this is what I came up with. I used a program that comes free with any apple computer called iMovie. It’s so simple, literally drag and drop, tweak and done!

    So what do you think? Feel like you were at my wedding? Hope so!

  • Moments from the wedding Part I

    I put together a little video of pictures from getting ready for the ceremony to the end of the ceremony. It’s my first attempt at making a music video so bare with me. Hope everyone is having a great labor day and I’ll make some more with pictures from the rest of the evening :) Photos are from our photographer, friends and family.

  • Honeymoon is SET!

    We finally know where we’re going and I have to say that I’m very excited about it. We’re heading over to Los Cabos, Mexico to a all inclusive resort. We don’t have to worry about food, drinks (alcoholic or non), water activities and they gave us the honeymoon suite.. our room has a balcony facing two infinity pools which also face the ocean!!!!! Kind of like this view here:

    Sorry for the picture overload. But as you can tell I am one excited little lady. We had a couple things we kept in mine while planning our honeymoon. We set a budget and wasn’t going to budge from it unless it was seriously worth it. We also wanted to go somewhere that was highly rated not only by hotel star ratings but also our friends. And most importantly we wanted to get away to some place beautiful, where we can relax but also go shopping, to a spa, do sport type activities. A good friend of my went there not too long ago so we also have rave reviews from her and her boyfriend. They mentioned that you can go there and completely do nothing or you can go and take dance, archery, snorkle, scuba etc lessons, glass bottom boat rides, lovers beach and many other activites.  That sounds like my sort of place. So I am really excited to say that we booked it through Apple Vacations. We looked around at a lot of other sites, travel agents but we’ve used AV before and we loved it. Plus it was the best deal we could find.

    So ladies Mr. Poppy and I will be here for a week and I can’t WAIT! I’ll be sure to review it once we get back with lots of pictures. How is your honeymoon planning going?

  • A Cinderella Wedding

    I was talking to a friend of mine when he sent me over to a website of his friend who recently got married and I was instantly in love! Their wedding was like Cinderella…. quite beautiful. I noticed her videos most of all since they were quite beautiful and I asked her if she would like to share her most special day with our weddingbee readers. She was more than happy to share it with us! Congratulations Amy and Alex!

    ~~~~~~
    We had our wedding day filmed professionally not once, but TWICE!
    Allow me to explain.  Like everything else wedding related, we just
    couldn’t decide on one style of videography.  Our videographer Patrick
    of Still-Motion.ca specializes in a cinematic style, which I love and is the reason we
    booked him in the first place.  We really liked the idea of an
    emotional retelling of our day.  But there is something so irresistible
    about Super 8mm (a topic covered once here before)!  At the time we
    booked, they did not offer Super 8mm coverage.  But Patrick, never one to turn down a challenge, decided to do it for us.  Two days
    before the wedding, I called Patrick to finalize the wedding day
    details and we got to talking about Super 8mm.
    It went something like
    this:
    Patrick: It says here you want the Super 8 coverage to be “home-movie” like.  What does that mean exactly?
    Me: Um…I want it to be shakey, kinda amateurish looking.
    Patrick: You want us to to shake the camera? Make it look like an amateur shot it?
    Me: …uhhh…exactly, yes, that’s what I want!
    We love that we got to see our day filmed from two very
    different perspectives!
    The first clip is filmed entirely in Super 8mm http://www.lookeschvideo.com/?p=5 or:
  • Honeymoon Plans Part II
    Well Mr. Poppy and I were supposed to take our honeymoon in December to Thailand then stopping by Hong Kong for another Chinese banquet. But his work needs him and so we’re taking a honeymoon during late October. We both decided that we’ll do a formal Chinese banquet in Hong Kong next year and we’ll just enjoy a honeymoon that isn’t as far as Thailand.
    So now we’re debating about where to go. We’ve already been to Punta Cana and loved it but not sure if we want to go around that area again since normally in October the weather isn’t too shabby. We looked at Barbados, Costa Rica and saw many all inclusive packages via Apple Vacations. We used them for our Dominican Republic trip and loved them. We’re also debating about cruises that leave from NYC.
    We don’t have much time to plan this and we’re even considering Hawaii. Do you know of any great vacationing/honeymooning spots? We could use all the advice we can get.
  • Dying the crinoline
    This little package of RIT dye is all I needed to dye my lovely snow white crinoline blue! The instructions are there on the package and I literally followed it step by step for the washing machine.
    Fill machine with enough hot water for crinoline to move freely. Pre-dissolve powder
    in 2 cups of hot water. Add pre-dissolved powder or liquid to hot dye
    bath.
    Wet fabric in hot water (I used my bathtub). Uncrumple and add to dye bath.
    Set machine for extended wash cycle. Fabric should be in dye bath for
    at least 30 minutes before rinse begins. (You can reset your washing
    machine before the rinse cycle begins for extended wash cycle.)
    Rinse in cold water until water runs clear. Wash deep shades in warm
    water with mild detergent and rinse thoroughly in cool water.
    Dry item in dryer or hang to dry.
    Clean washing machine using highest water level with hot water,
    detergent and 1 cup chlorine bleach using complete wash cycle. Clean
    lint traps. Plastic or rubber machine parts may be tinted but will not
    stain laundry.
    You should check your washing machine often to see if your crinoline is tangled and go in there with rubber gloves on (you can use those cheap plastic gloves for washing dishes) and fix the crinoline. Make sure you rinse the crinoline until it comes out clear! You can use the dryer but remember the dryer will shrink it so air drying is your best bet! I used the dryer because I lost weight from the time I bought my crinoline (which was a year and a half prior). Wrinkles? No problem – Steam or hand iron it and use a thin cloth in between so you don’t ruin it. I was a little concerned that the washing machine might be stained blue but it wasn’t. Right after I was finished I wiped the inside of the machine with a towel, ran the washer once by itself with the towel I used and it was fine.
    I have a feeling I’ll totally regret putting up a picture with my bra and crinoline on but hey… it’s Weddingbee so it’s ok right? :) Plus I was so happy wearing just this that one of bridesmaids told me I could even just wear that down the aisle…. But thankfully I had a pretty dress to wear as well! Good luck ladies and dye your crinolines!
    Ps: If any of you want to customize your colour: here is a great site for you.
  • Thank You Cards
    As soon as the wedding was over we went to our nearby Papyrus and order our address embosser from them. We ended up choosing a design that has an “L” (for our last name), our last name is on top and our address is circled around the letter. I wish i could take a picture of it but sadly I am not talented enough to take a nice picture. The reason why we bought this is a nice added finish to our envelopes that we will be sending out with our thank you cards snugged inside.
    For the thank you cards we went to Shutterfly note cards. 3.5″X5″ cards (box of 12) at $9.99 each is a great deal to me. I love the fact that you can upload your own pictures and we haven’t received our professional pictures yet but a great friend of mine has wonderful pictures that she has given us from the wedding. (You can see her work in my previous posts – Thanks Win ) We took one of the pictures from Win and ordered our thank you cards via Shutterfly. We should be getting them next week and although it will be more than a couple weeks when our guests receive them, we hope they appreciate the special touch of having a photo from the wedding.
    As far as wording thank you notes we’re taking some tips from the web. About.com has great tips for various gifts such as: items from registry, people you don’t know very well, gifts you received but they were not present at the wedding. Here’s a example of a thank you note for cash gifts (which are especially common in a Chinese/Korean wedding):
    “Dear Mr. Harry Potter,
    Mr Poppy and I wanted to thank you greatly for the check you sent for a
    wedding gift. We are saving to buy a new car, and your gift will help
    us reach our goal. We can’t wait to take you for a spin around the
    neighborhood.
    Best wishes,
    Mrs. Poppy “
    Okay, okay so Harry Potter wasn’t a guest at our wedding but I’m currently reading it so I thought I’d throw it in there. It’s also very nice to let your guests know how you have/are planning to use their gift. But in the end of it all you know your guests, you’ll know what is genuine and in the end that means more than anything else.
    And thank you Weddingbee readers, bees and last but not least Mrs. Bee for promoting such a beautiful, supportive community of love.
    Love,
    Mrs. Poppy (and of course Mr. Poppy)
  • Honeymoon!
    We’ve decided to go to Thailand for our honeymoon and spend a couple days in Hong Kong and have another Chinese banquet. So excited. Now all I’m waiting for is our marriage license to come back so I can change all my documents: driver’s license, passport and CCs. Oh… and we have to plan Thailand out hehe.
    Any tips?
  • Raccoon eyes
    Yes this is the curse that I have to live with. I don’t have the lovely eyelid folds that most people have so I suffer from what we call “raccoon eyes”. I’ve been searching high and low for products that prevent me from looking like I stood out in the rain for about 30 minutes without an umbrella. The easy route to go is obviously liquid liner but let me just start by saying I have absolutely no talent when it comes to liquid liner. So I needed something that was goof-proof.
    This little pencil right here is Make Up For Ever – Pearly, Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil. I asked the lovely women at Sephora many of times if it’s smudge proof, if it won’t melt off my face in this crazy heat and also if there’s any way that sucker’s getting off my face without the most powerful makeup remover. They assured me that it’s their personal favourite and that I’ll be completely happy with it. So I bought it, tried it and loved it. I use the
    Star Black 1L
    (black sheen) and it goes on really smooth, totally easy to use and is part of my everyday makeup. $16 is a little much for eyeliner but I think it’s worth the money especially since this is the first time my eyeliner hasn’t dropped under my eye by lunch time.
    I have a specific Shiseido that I go to where they totally love me and often give me free full sized products. Why do they love me? Probably because I supply all of their pay from the amount of face care products, makeup and oil bloating tissues I buy every time I visit. But anyway back to eyeliners… One of the lovely ladies gave me “Shiseido: The Makeup; Accentuating Cream Eyeliner” and it’s really heavenly. The eyeliner comes in a little pot of creaminess and with it comes a liner brush/cap. The liner is actually quite difficult to put on but with practice it’s easier. I’m thrilled to say that this doesn’t give me the lovely look of raccoon eyes either. I’m still not too steady with the hands to have this as part of my everyday makeup but I can see how this would be great for a rehearsal dinner type setting when you’d want to do your own makeup.
    Oh goodness I can’t live with out this right here: Benefit – F. Y. Eye. I was introduced to this product about 2 years ago when my lovely friend Mariela told me that this locks in eye colour all day long. The very next day I went out and bought it and tried it out, now it’s part of my everyday makeup. I can’t stress how much this has prevented my eyes from looking like smokey eyes gone bad and I sometimes wear this by itself. Greatest makeup investment I’ve ever made.
    What’s your favourite eye makeup? Glad to have shared some of mine.
  • it’s been almost two weeks since we got married and i have no idea when marriage licenses are sent back. anyone have any idea? also… i changed my last name so does that mean i have to go get my driver’s license and passport changed as well? (especially since we’re taking our honeymoon in december)
