| | mother bear on a bikeyou know that "mother bear" instinct that mom's have? the thing that kicks in whenever you feel your child is in danger and you instantly become some kind of vigilante and develop super powers that amaze everyone?
ya...that is totally true. i am grossed out easily, but have plunged my hand into my child's vomit to see what the heck it was that he was throwing up..it looked like slugs and i was horrified to think that he had them inside of him so i "instinctively" picked it up and squashed it between my fingers to check. they were grapes. after i had time to think about it...i almost threw up.
i am scared of bugs. but after seeing one crawling on my child's chest, i immediately grabbed it and smashed it with my fingers. spiders scare the crap out of me. but i didn't have time to think and i did something totally out of character and saved my child's life. i'm sure the itsy bitsy spider was completely harmless but that's not the point.
the point is...why can't i be that brave all the time? why can't my cat-like reflexes come at times of other emergencies (like flaming decorations at baby showers?) and stay with me during normal activities...like riding a stinkin' bike! i have no balance, no control and i feel like i'm 7. sam laughing at me in the background doesn't help either.
