As a borderline case, you will be considered in the moderation meeting but any extra information gained from a viva will, of course, not be available to the board. You have been informed on many occasions that students in the moderation zone would be invited for viva during this week, and we expected that you would make yourself available. Please let Jerzy Snelling know if you will be attending. yours Jim Hardie Professor Jim Hardie, Imperial College London, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Life Sciences, Silwood Park campus, Ascot, Berks SL5 7PY. 0207 5942259; fax 0207 5942339; j.hardie@imperial.ac.uk Dear Mr Snelling, I would like to come to the viva, however i am in Hong Kong, could the viva be done through phone or internet? Also I would like to ask which boundaries I am in, and what is the chance of getting my grade raised? If the chance is high it might be worth it to buy a ticket for the viva, but ideally i hope it could be done through phone or internet. Please reply soon so that I can decide, thanks. regards, Anthony Mok.

Dear All, You have been selected to attend an external Viva on the Friday 4th July 2008. Please find attached a copy of the timetable of the meetings detailing the room number, time and who will be attending. The external examiners will be Professor James Alexander (University of Strathclyde), Professor Jeff Bale (University of Birmingham) and Professor Andy Johnson (University of East Anglia). They will have access to all of your 1st, 2nd and Final Year exam scripts plus any projects/field course reports you have done in your time at Imperial College. The viva meeting should be regarded as a formal meeting. We suggest that you are dressed smartly and well prepared. Unfortunately we can not let you know what boundary you are in, but it is important to remember that you can not harm your final degree classification, only improve on it. For example, if you are in the moderation zone between a 2:2 and 2:1, this means your current degree classification falls in the 2:2 boundaries, but it is extremely close to a 2:1 (normally within 2.5%). The viva interview is your opportunity to improve your mark and show that you are actually a 2:1 student. Be prepared to answer questions on your project and your final year courses. The main thing is not to panic and stress yourselves out. Remember that you can not harm your final degree classification, only improve on it. So make sure you are punctual, bright and alert for your interview. I am sure you will all do well. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me on the number below. Please respond to this email and let me know if you will be attending the viva. |
