  • When daughters take up dancing, it's the parents who have to make the journey with them.   Support does not only mean paying the fees on time, sending them to classes, going for the open days to watch how the class is progressing ....... it means countless of other things as well. This is Nura's first *real* ballet costume, with a real tutu. To be selected as a competition soloist requires serious commitment from her, it's not just playing at being ballerina anymore. Though she did well, she did not get the best marks in the exams, but the selection for a competition dancer means more than just marks or technical superiority. Nura had a classmate who was enormously talented, but she quaked and cried from the stress of public performances and competition, she would have nightmares and sleepwalk. We leave it up to Sharon as she knows best which child is mentally capable of being in competition. She says it's all about the long run, about the child and parent being disciplined enough and especially the child being hungry or focused enough to want to do this. A pretty face, pointy toes, a perfect proportion does not make a dancer.

Whether Nura wins or not is not so much an issue because we know she will gain a tremendous amount of experience from  the competition being able to see how much better the other dancers are. We expect the competition in  her category of Under 13years to be very stiff, she knows it. Students from the Halili Cruz Dance School of the Philippines are stunning, fabulous dancers and every year they literally sweep the prizes for the soloists.

This is another step towards SOTA. Not many dancers in Singapore get the chance to dance in competition solos and this will be an interesting addition to Nura's resume for the SOTA March auditions next year.

Today I need to start beading the body of the costume. Just in case you didn't know, beautiful costumes don't just appear like magic *LOL* ........ the moms, the aunts, grandmothers, the odd dad or two, all help. It really does take a community of parents to make dancers look beautiful.

    Thanks for dropping by !

  • It's been a looooonng, long day !!! Mommying can be a physical challenge when one doesn't have much help and today was a full day of driving everywhere, a quick stop home and out again. I am not making excuses for my life and for all this busy-ness, it is a choice I made years ago. In truth it is easier now the girls are older and I can leave them at home to run small errands nearby, they are independent in many ways, most importantly they are sensible.

As Guest DT for   Cherish All Memories   ........ I totally loved creating this !!! The kit is beautiful, full of details you can add to make the album very special !

For Buzz and Bloom last month .......... the circle Aboretum Seedlings chipboard are the cutest !!!

Gosh I am tired, going to bed, good night !!!

  • How about a card ? A Made With Love DT project ...........

Papers are Cloud 9s glitter paper Cocao Mint, Daisy Ds and Webster Pages. Word Sticker by Autumn Leaves, flowers are Prima and Imagenisce and mu favourite Foof-a-la buttons.  Thanks for stopping by !

    It's confirmed :

I have ONE Advance Altered class at Simei CC on the 26th August 2.30 to 5.30pm

And I start again at Made With Love in October to feature a Luxe products class and another for a mini-album.

  • The mailman came knocking this morning and brought Cocoa Daisy's August Kit. It is stunning, really !!! These are my colours and I see endless possibilities .............

  • The title ......  done !!!

    Thanks for coming by !!!

  • CHA Summer goodness ........... Oh YESSSSSSS please !!!

To me these Luxe products are the new essentials !! The best part is : they can be used with any other brand of papers. I have been using the graphic papers over and over again as journaling spots, as background, to alter the the tone of the layouts, they can be distressed, inked and they are especially great for mini books because the papers and tags are of hardy cardstock quality making them ideal for heavy duty handling.

Right now I am working on a layout for Made With Love ......

Cloud 9 has the prettiest glitter paper and tags  ............... just look at Autumn Leaves's little chipboard owl, I love how the two brands match so perfectly !!! Some glitter papers have a too-cutesy feel, which is fine if you have little kids, but for me a design has to have a potential for more uses as I usually scrap my kids who are older at 11 and 15 years or adults. The layout's almost done as I only need to figure out where to put the journaling and what alphas to use for the title.

  • Today I feel great !!!
This is done ...... laundry the bane of all moms working or staying home !!!

Every school day I get up at 5.40am to get breakfast ready for Stasha. Both our girls are *breakfast* people, we know not everyone is used to having food so early in the morning, but Stasha and Nura need it the first thing they get up. In Secondary school, recess times change from term to term and on some months, Stasha's recess could be as late as 10.45.
Imagine not having anything to eat till then ?

After a quick Asian breakfast of noodles, rice porridge or rice in soup Thai style, we leave home usually at 6.20 for the 25 minutes drive to  school.

Once I am home, in the mornings I like to get going the scrapbook projects, check emails, check the message boards, make phone calls or appointments for the week.

Nura has lunch at 11am and then we drive to school at 11.45.

This afternoon  I will be putting together this week's DT kits for Made With Love, can't wait to see what products are available !!!
The day is starting out cool, slightly overcast over the East Coast.
I hope your day is shaping up great !

  • ~~~ Happy Birthday Jenn !!!! ~~~

May your day be filled with love and happiness, blessings galore  !!!

Woooooo ..... working on the Luxe products that will be available at CHA Summer ......

    Calender papers :

Another layout of our cat titled The Boy using Luxe's all new Circle transparency :

    Details :

I've realised I actually like the clean modern lines which is so much part of the Luxe-style.

Today I have some time to all myself till about 3pm when I go to pick Stasha up from school.  Am ticking off the list what needs to be done, what is done, and again I MUST sort out the scrap supplies.

Sometimes the life of a stay home mom/scrapbooker must seem so mundane but in truth, I am so, so thankful to have this ! Working full time would mean more money, definitely more of a materially comfortable life especially with Singapore being so expensive.  The only stumbling blocks are - having to chain myself to an office routine of 9 to 5 and having to hire live in help, meaning another person to be responsible for physically and emotionally. I am not willing to relegate the day to day care of the girls to a live in help, nor sacrifice our privacy in this small living space.

So for now,  though the home is a little dusty, the tidying up may be sporadic at best, though money problems pop up now and then, the pluses are I see my girls when they are home and know what they get up to,  I get to scrapbook in between, we get to eat simple home cooked meals everyday.

Not a bad life at all.

  • Good mail day....... thanks Scenic Route !!!  It's the Appleton product Kit, mostly boy colours, but I love Scenic Route and will still use it for our girls with slight adaptions here and there !

Today I've got a mad, mad day of sending and picking up the girls - school, dance lessons, a Meet the MP session organised by Stasha's school where they will get a chance to talk to Ms Indranee Rajah.

Got to get going ...... bye !
