| I read a little about the Ethiopian Orthodox Church last night. I would like to read mucho about it, so i need to locate a nice thorough book on the subject. Ethiopia is probably one of the most interesting countries in terms of history and culture. Here are some ethiopia-factoids:
-Ethiopia is one of teh only african nations to have avoided Colonization by european forces.
-The humble ethiopian army successfully defeated Italy in 1896 at the battle of Adwa when they attempted to invade and take over. There was a brief 5-6 year occupation by Italy from 1936-1941, which left behind a lot of rusty old military vehicle and cappucino machines, which you can even find way out in the boondocks of Ethiopia.
-Ethiopia is surrounded by Muslim nations, but it has clung to Christianity even when Islam was rapidly spreading across the middle east and n. africa. Thus its church is unique and was somewhat isolated from European Christian influence for many centuries.

| long time no see.
i've been encouraged to do some xanga madness by my good friend and confidant, seraphim.
i some times get too busy, and then neglect the responsibilities that
make me that way,....so they just keep getting busier. anyway, my dad
moved back to trinidad for good last week, and coincedentially my
mother is moving back next month. karma and i are planning to return to
trinidad next summer....not for good just for a few months. I
have been talking to this guy who planted a church in trinidad.
It seems real nice. they only use indigenous caribbean music and
teach bible. The fella i talked to said they've had a lot of
resistance from the local churches because of the fact that they are
attracting a lot of dreads. the guy is pretty interesting. He
follows Ital diet, and pretty much all the other aspects of "rasta"
culture, minus the ganja and Selassie I worship. He took the
nazirite vow four years ago, and he has a pretty wicked dread beard
going, which is always admirable.
for some reason, lately i've been liking to smoke. i smoked like
13 cloves this past week. it is weird. I have never really
smoked, and my brain knows all about how idiotic smoking is, but for
somereason i really enjoy smoking early with the sunrise in my hammock
chair on the porch....BAD NEWS. i can already tell i would prolly
chain smoke.
