I've not seen much of this on the news--internet or otherwise--so I'm passing the info along to you. Please pass it along or refer people here, if you like.
There is a MAJOR food recall going on in the US and Canada. So far only 4 people have gotten ill, but this is a dangerous, dangerous situation. The Castleberry company is recalling foods manufactured by them under their own label and under store brand labels for a two year period. These products were improperly cooked, which has enabled the bacteria that causes botulism to survive the canning process. Bacteria are anaerobic, so the longer the products stay in the can, the worse the contamination gets.
FDA inspectors say that they're still finding thousands of these cans on store shelves despite the recall, especially in convenience stores, mom and pop groceries, and other small food markets.
Botulism is serious stuff, people. It's a nerve toxin that can paralyze you in a heartbeat, and if a person gets it, at the very least they'll probably end up on a respirator in ICU for weeks.
