Courtship is a friendship where both parties know that the end goal is such a deep friendship, that in order to be properly appreciated as God intended, it should be had with one person only. Having stated the above, courting is not that friendship but a means to reach that friendship, as God blesses and prospers the way. Courtship involves accountability, honesty, respect, honor, fear and copious amounts of patience. A courtship is not unlike a flower that must be watered properly. Too much water and the plant rots, not enough and the flower withers. Each courtship must proceed at an appropriate pace--and yes, as different vegetation requires different treatment, so various courtships progress at separate paces.

My heart rejoices at the opportunity that lies before me in the God-granted approval I have to court Katy. Both her parents and mine have prayed and counseled and it is with their open permission and blessing that I proceed. No doubt much counsel will be needed along the way, and I welcome it gladly. Godly councilors are a wise man's friend, and while I do not pretend to be wise, I do crave the advice of godly teachers, personified for me predominantly in my parents and also in Katy's. In my current position, I'm so overjoyed that I can't express it adequately in word or song. To be sure, there is also more than a hint of fear and trepidation at the joyous task I'm undertaking. Actions have consequences--now more than ever.

Keeping all this in mind, a courtship with but one participant is not courtship. My actions would have little meaning aside from the fact that in my courting Katy, Katy is courting me. The virtues she, as a godly lady, exemplifies include the ability to be gracious and patient with me as I learn what it means to court, while courting in the midst of my learning. Her friendship has been a gift I was unworthy to receive. How God could have seen fit to so bless me is beyond my ability to grasp. I pray He takes all the glory and majesty to Himself from the relationship He has given us. Amen.

Sunday, July 10, 2005

Greetings all and sundry! Long time no write (as always) because much much busy. Recently applied for and almost got the position of my boss at Senator Allen's office. Came close--such is life--and they said they'd keep an eye out for jobs for me, as well as being willing to right job recommendations. Guess life could be worse. Actually going up to the DC office this Thursday to see the Senator and tour around. Going to swing by some folks in P'ville and have dinner--fun, fun, fun. Also--word to anyone on campus or around PHC the next two weeks: my brothers (Chris and Tim) are up for the debate camp and would I'm sure appreciate getting to meet y'all. Anyhoo, God bless and God speed to all y'all this summer. Feel free to contact moi concerning...anything. No fees and no guarantees.

Saturday, May 21, 2005

Greetings! Sorry to have not written in so long--has been rather busy here. Such is life, or my current perception of 't. Actually I've been doing some pretty cool stuff recently--volunteering at an event where the President spoke on Bio-Diesel and energy policy; starting my internship with Senator Allen's Office; and doing my best to maintain a life.

Working with/for Senator Allen has been most fascinating. I've gotten to enter data, sort data, answer the phone, compile data, call people on the phone, listen to voicemail, transfer people on the phone, take messages, send people to voicemail, and YES--place people on hold! The people that I work with are all very nice and understanding. I don't think I've made any major slip-ups yet, however, the summer is long and the potential will be there for quite some time. One item of great interest currently is the whole filibuster rule change deal. Because the computer monitors for all the computers function as TV's as well, I've gotten to watch a lot of C-SPAN2 and the debates on the floor of the Senate. When you're working for a Senator and said Senator is on national television, it's considered mandatory to view such appearances. I really don't think I could be working for a better Senator--Senator Allen is AWESOME! I'm sure I'll have more interesting anecdotes to relate as the summer progresses.

I'll do my best to update above blog--we'll have to see, shan't we?

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Greetings and whats-it. I've discovered a song that was recently discovered and has gained widespread cyber-popularity. And no. It's not in Latin--it's in Romanian, which is not quite entirely unlike Latin, but close.

Ma-ia-hii

Ma-ia-huu

Ma-ia-hoo

Ma-ia-haha

Very interesting song. If you take an inadvertant interest in lip-synching college students, here's a most awesome link to see this song lip-synched: http://www.porchlight.us/numa.htm

Wednesday, April 06, 2005

There I was, dancing a jig on this Frenchman's waistcoat, when suddenly, I awoke. Dashed convenient too. The villainous fellow's pals were in the process of aiding an abetting and I would have been none to keen on the odds. But, to start out on the wrong foot (see passage above), in a rather distant way the narrative previously mentioned somewhat remotely reflects my current state. In other words, my heretofore sedate life has taken a daring turn. Every single weekend from now till Doom's Day (May of current year) is chock full of 'events.' "What events?" the ignorant reader might ask. "Well, let me jolly well inform you," I'd respond.

Last weekend a trip was hazarded to King's Dominion on Thursday, with Debate meeting on Friday (1100-1800), followed immediately by gamenight at our house (1830-2130). Recovered somewhat on Saturday; Sunday Church w/congregational meal. This week we've had a family visiting our Church from Valdosta, GA, staying with us. Very nice family, stayed Monday through Wednesday. Thursday we leave for Annandale, VA; the site of a regional qualifying NCFCA debate tournament. This will take Thursday-mid Saturday. Mid Saturday, friend and self make tracks for one Patrick Henry College, where self plans to sport a lively shoe at the annual Liberty Ball shindig. Friend, through lack of the necessary ticket, will be gathering info from the natives and cataloging their actions against his possible enrollment in the establishment. Sunday, self and friend will be wrenched (figuratively we hope) from the dreamy and present ourselves at a friends Church to observe (and possibly critique) one musical ensemble comprised of PHC college attendees. Possible traipsing over hilltops and through hedges await the weary wanderers Sunday evening--in short, a jaunt along the Appalachian Trail. Monday's morning sun will see friend and self biffing off down the road for home.

The following weekend self will be taking different friend to an individual event debate tournament in Maryland--one or two night stay. Long drive--should prove pleasant.

Should the dear one still be flopping the following weekend this same college ensemble will be visiting yours truly's abode. Actually staying on the premises. The performance will take place at the Church where the ensemble will be providing discussion through song, and all that sort of thing. Or, rather singing in the slate of time normally used for discussion, what? Simply topping.

Providing the good old flesh and b. are still hanging with it, the following weekend will see me ensconced in a little room containing vast and copious amounts of information pertaining to the Region IX Invitational debate tournament. Working the tabulation room, or words to that effect. The rigors of the job will most likely demand sustaining stimulants, what?

Should there be those of the audience with a sympathetic bent; in a word, compassionate persons, if compassionate is the word I want; there will be a viewing of the body on the 7th instant of May. Large contributions will not be turned away. Those inclined to be critical of the deceased will be escorted from the premises.

Wednesday, March 23, 2005

Hah! In the midst of everything, I've decided to start a blogring. Some may wonder at the title, but anyone who's read any of Baroness Orczy's works will rapidly understand. I guess that means that the content here should be a little more foppish; somewhat mysterious; with a definite undercurrent of gentlemanly courage and fortitude. Zounds! but we shall have to see what turns up

Sunday, March 20, 2005

Well, the war is over--amnesty for all actions has been granted to all parties involved and so now I'm going to wage peace. Violent, savage, even brutal peace against all war-mongers and persons of overly aggressive natures. I'll be proclaiming my semi/pseudo benevolent dictatorship shortly. After abolishing all current world governments, I'll sit back and relax. Why not...the world will be mine, and all those opposed to my rule will be given free passage to my recently acquired holding--the Moon. Depending on the degree of their dislike of my government (or person), I may or may not include oxygen in my colonial plans for the Moon. I believe in fiat power, yes I do, and if I say such should be the case--then let it be done, etc., etc., etc.

As I sit back and relax, I'll think of all those that didn't care for my "style" of government--and wish enlightenment upon them all. I've decided to be a philosopher/debater-king/ruler/tyrant. So you see, the world is so much better without war...
