what do people prefer ... college or working full time? ;)

Monday, December 12, 2005

The last semester of college feels kinda strange.  I can still remember when I arrived as a freshmen just learning the campus and the surrounding area.  As I prepare to leave, there are a lot of good memories and friends that I'll be leaving behind.

A few moments from college ...

Thanks to everyone who made it so awesome.

Weekend highlights so far:

-lots of card playing
-visited the bog exhibit at the natural history museum
-went to see YoYo Ma with the PSO
-very little work so far :)

Currently reading:

The End of Poverty by Jeffrey Sachs.

This has been a great read so far.  It discusses why rich and poor countries exist and how we can stop extreme poverty by 2025.  Its books like this one that make me appreciate economics beyond what they teach in class.  Read this! :)

Lou Gerstner (the former IBM CEO) had a sign outside his office door that read:

There are four kinds of people.  Those who make things happen.  Those to whom things happen to.  Those who watch things happen.  And those who don't even know things are happening.

I remember reading his book back in high school (when I still did leisurely reading) and this quote is the one thing that I still remember.  Every now and then, I think about the meaning behind these words.  I'm pretty close to finishing college, and I think it's very easy for people to fall into the habit of a 9-5 job where they just do enough to get by their jobs.  And I think for a lot of people, maybe that's ok.  But I'm not that type of peson.  I think it would be awesome if everyone could find something that they really love, that they can really get excited about and just want to jump up and down and shout about it.  Maybe there are people out there already like that but I think we can do better still.

P.S.  I'm going to make it a personal goal to read more this semester since reading is just awesome.
