sorry i've been so lax in my journaling lately! with the new semester starting and work and my calling, plus big brothers and big sisters stuff coillin and i have been doing, we've been running around like mad. i think things are setlling into more of a routine now, though.

so, finally the long awaited vacation photos, with commentary. let's start off with what greeted us at our campsite in yosemite national park...

isn't that cute? i thought collin's parents were joking when they said they had bears wandering around everywhere in the park, but after being woken up a few nights at 2 a.m. by the screams of 'BEAR!! BEAR!!' and the accompanying running, stomping, tooting of airhorns and whistling while people CHASED the bears out of the campsite, i was a believer.

there were some forest fires burning in another part of the park while we were there. this photo shows how smoky the valley was in the mornings. it usually cleared up by about noon.

i took this photo when i was wading in the very cold river that ran by our campsite.

here are collin's parents watching while we swam.

i was really impressed by this photo that collin took of the famous 'half dome'.  he had bought a mini tripod just for taking this shot... i'm glad he did.

this is a good example of collin and i as a photography team. i set up the shot and then had collin play with the camera to get the focus just right. this is one of my favorites from the trip.

after a few days in yosemite we headed up to san fransisco. we took the tour at alcatraz and got some really neat photos there.

this guy followed our ferry out to the island and was delighting some cute japanese girls who were standing near us. i think they were half afraid of him, as he was flying awfully close to our heads.

this is probably my favorite photo from alcatraz, which is funny because collin was chastising me for taking too many photos. he didn't think we'd need a photo of this building. he was properly contrite after seeing how it came out. i think it's really pretty.

the next three photos collin played with in photoshop to create the feeling of alcatraz.

a view from the excersise yard, facing the cellhouse.

a toilet in the shower room

a view of the watch tower.

okay, i need to take a break, but i'll post some more pictures either later tonight or tomorrow.

well, here it is, tuesday afternoon. i have just finished cleaning my bathroom and now must jump into the shower and head to a managers meeting at work. after that, i'll come home, work on copying some recipes into my file and then get dressed to head back to work from 8 pm until 12:30. blecccch.

hopefully while i work on the recipes i'll have time to update the old journal some more, so as not to disappoint my fans.

the weekend of the fourth collin and i went to the gunlock rodeo. gunlock is about a half hour drive northwest of santa clara, with a population of maybe 20. the church used to do rodeos out here for fundraisers and the town kept it up. this was the 60th annual gunlock rodeo. here are some photos i took. nothing too fancy, but i really love taking pictures. the rodeo was a blast, we had so much fun. i've decided i need to learn how to rope cattle. we also decided that when we have kids they're going to do 4H. i think i may even start helping out the local 4H kids now, so i can learn more about it. i'll caption each of the photos, but be sure to check out collin's boots. he comes from good cowboy stock.

this is a shot of all the trailers pulling in and the hills in the background. it was a beautiful day.

this shot shows part of the arena, but i wanted to get some of the scenery in too. it's so pretty up there.

the famous boots!

this little guy was so cute in his red boots i had to get a shot. he rode a little calf later!

well, there's an idea of what we did for the fouth. more photos soon.
