Tonight I am reminded of the importance of family.

Although often the source of great challenges, it is also the only real source of unconditional love.

Just moments ago my mom came into my room to offer some concluding words to what was an intense, but hopeful conversation I had with my parents earlier this evening.  She said that this is the value of family - that any struggle we face is faced together, no matter how challenging.  I can overhear her voice now in the next room, as she talks to her aging mother over the phone.

    "What did you do today?"
    "Have you taken your medicine?"
"Don't drink juice unless it's fresh-squeezed at home!"

I sit here quietly at my desk, moved by the unconditional love she gives not only to her children, but to her parents as well.  I hope that I can be half as loving as her one day.

CIMG2798x

I guess this is it!  I've sent in my registration to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this coming Fall for their Master of Architecture program.  (I also sent declinations to Yale and UCLA, take that, bitches!!This marks the end of a year-long process of revamping old projects, studying for the GRE, writing six different essays for six different applications, and the toughest of task of all, designing and producing a 110-page booklet representative of my work thus far, i.e. my portfolio.  All this on top of the 40-hour (sometimes up to 70-hour) work week.  It’s been one of the most intense, grueling years of my life, but I must also say that it’s been one of the years which I’ve learned and grown the most as well.

At this point, I couldn't feel more relieved.  But more so, I feel very fortunate to have had great support from many people throughout this rigorous process.  I couldn’t have gotten here without them, I am sure of that.  So, thanks to all those who brought me food when I worked on applications through lunch (and dinner), to those who taught me the software and tools necessary to create this portfolio, to those who gave me feedback on my work, to those who wrote letters of recommendation for me, to those who were understanding of my crazy schedule and stressed-out moods, and most of all, to those who kept me motivated and inspired, even during times when I wanted to give up.  The results in the end were great, and I owe you all a lot.

Thanks!
