OK I just thought this out as I was eating dinner. The theory is kinda rough right now, but give me a few days to fine tune it.
For those of you who would consider yourself secular, please read
on. Those of you who would consider yourself highly religious, I'm
sorry if the following offends you.
You all know how computer games work right? Specifically action
games. In case you don't, I'll try to explain it to you as simply as I
can.
The object of the game is always to finish a journey to a given
spot. Always. Think about it. Its a virtual journey that you take.
Along the way, you make pick small pathes that you may follow. For
example, MineSweeper, you can click along the Y and the X axis on the
board. You can click where ever you want on the board. Your goal is to
click on all the spaces that are not mines and be able to name the ones
that at mines. Now with each small "path" that you choose, it will
always be followed up with a consequence. Click on a swaure, and you
risk clicking on a mine. Click on a mine, game over. Click on an empty
square, a number is revealed to help you eliminate the mines. These
"paths" that you choose are inputs. All of the inputs are preprogramed
with a corresponding consequence. The game is already laid out and you
have no real choice as to what happens in the end. It is inevitable.
Now lets apply what we have learned about video games to everyday
life. In life, there is always an end. And from what science has told
us, the end is death. (Thats where a lot of religious people start to
argue with me) There is nothing you can do to prevent death. You can
take the "side roads" I spoke of earlier. This includes career choices,
maritual status, favorite food, etc. Anything that is a choice in life
is a side road. And there will always be the corresponding consequences
to the side roads you choose. Stress levels, health levels, etc. With a
choice, you can live to see another day or you may wake up and find
yourself having an out of body experience. Kinda see the brilliance to
my madness?
Now all of that is to lead to this point:
GAMES CAN BE ALTERED.
The inputs are preprogramed, yes. They will carry a consequence. But
imagine if you added an input of your own. And when you choose your own
input, there is no corresponding consequence. The input that you used
may very well be near identical to the input preprogramed. But the
slight difference allows you to "cheat the system." You see this all
the time. Secret codes, Game Sharks, Hex editors, hackers, etc. The
system would not reconize the input and not know how to act, resulting
in no consequence. You create a factor that acts like a silver bullet.
Now if games can be altered and cheated, then what stands in the way
of letting us alter and "cheat" life? Fundamentally, games are
identical to life. And so theoretically, they same law that govern
games governs life. (This is were even more religious people would
argue with me).
Agree or disagree? Post comments please. I want as much feedback as possible.
(I realize that I am completely neglecting the role of religion. But thats just me. I am not exactly a hugely religious person.) |
