| Gulf Coast mourns 1 year after Katrina
NEW ORLEANS - In the dark of dawn 65 miles south of this shattered city, several hundred people bowed their heads in silence, marking the moment a year ago when the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed overhead at 6:10 a.m. The tiny town of Buras was swept into the Gulf of Mexico by Katrina, and hours later, New Orleans' crucial levees were breached, unleashing one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history, killing over 1,800 people, most in Louisiana.

it's been a year since hurricane katrina hit US gulf coast. never would i have thought that God uses this as a way to teach me about His love, grace and mercy. looking back a year ago, i was so occupied with my residency. compassion for the hurricane victims didn't even hit me. all i could thought of is that people down south is just different from us folks up north. God broke down my barriers, humbled me and made me kneel down and realized how much of a sinner I am. with my experiences down in the gulf coast, i've learned to listen, have compassion, be humble and be grateful. But most importantly, God reminded me of my relationship with Him. My priorities in life, which is to serve Him first with my whole heart, mind, soul and strength. He has also shown me that the mission field not just overseas. But it's everywhere, right here, in our own country! Thank you Lord.
They still need a lot of help in the Gulf Coast. I strongly encourage all of you to consider going down there. God is doing some AMAZING stuff in that region. I'm just waiting for more vacation days to build up so I can go back down again |
