| I like publishing on even-numbered days. It seems more balanced that way.
Every Tuesday, I babysit a little two year old boy. He can't speak yet, but he'll do baby signs to tell me what he wants. I think this is a fun age because they're learning things so fast. I taught him how to differentiate between a bug and a dot. Now, exploring the front yard for different bugs is part of our routine. This Tuesday, we found a roly-poly, ladybug, and bee. This sense of wonder makes me smile. The front yard, so small in my eyes, is a vast, new world for him. And the thing about children is that they see all the little details. It seems like when we get older, our eyes become blind to the little things and we lose the appreciation for them. I'm glad that God can use little children to help us see again.
After we explore the front yard, we blow bubbles. I don't even remember the last time I blew bubbles, but there's something magical about them. They're so finite. Their lives are at most 5 seconds, but if you look at them at the right angle, you can see the rainbow. Even though their lives are so short, the bubbles lived it the best they could-- beautifully and with a purpose.
I think everyone should think of something they used to do as a kid and do it again.
Sit in the dirt and make a mud pie. Fly with a blanket for a cape. Look for the unnoticed.
I know. I'm just silly.

| Luxuries of a Kitchen. I've been pet-sitting for my supervisor since Saturday, and let me tell you, it's been absolutely grand. Most of my friends can attest to the fact that I usually cower behind them when we walk past dogs, but the perks of pet-sitting outweigh the strange unknowns (e.g. Why does Mochi use every drop of pee possible to mark her territory?).
Hence, I have discovered the joy of having my own kitchen... and taking advantage of it, I might add. After delving through a series of food blogs, I thoroughly raided the local Safeway. I've been in a soup mood, so I brewed up a brothy black bean soup and then a potato-leek soup.
My first love, though, was and is baking! So, making use of the leftover strawberries and numerous citrus trees, I concocted a scrumptiously messy Strawberry shortcake ...
and healthy Orange Spiced muffins.
For the strawberry shortcake, I'd recommend lowering the temperature and baking it longer. The prescribed 425 degrees was too high and the insides didn't cook. As for the muffins, I used regular flour instead of whole wheat. At the first bite, I wasn't impressed, but then it grew on me because it's not too sweet. Zesting the orange peel was fun, too. I felt like I was scratching its back. :)
My neighbors gave me a bagful of oranges, so tomorrow's attempt will be Orange Yogurt Bread. Excitement!
Baking makes the whole house smell good!
Making use of the TV: Chris Paul over Lebron. Love it. Very impressed by Sixers' Iguodala. Haha, oh man, Leon Powe drawing a foul on his knees! But of course, you KNOW I am faithful to KG (30 pts. against the suns! And did you see that block?! Hawt.).
♥ Here's Mochi. She's teaching me how to love. ♥
| Selfish Post:
If I had all the time and money in the world, I would...
3. Go swimming!
My favorite stroke is the backstroke because I can look up at the sky the whole time. When I swim, there's a sense of peace because you can't hear anything except the water. You are lost in your thoughts and lost in the sky. And even though you're lost, you're forced to breathe. I read a cute card that said, "Dance in the sunshine, and your heart will catch the light". When I swim, I am bathed in water, sky, and sunshine all at the same time. :)
2. Spend half my day at Costco meandering through the aisles with my shopping cart.
I'd take my time to compare prices and nutrition facts, nibble at the free samples (while savoring my $1 churro), and of course, leaf through the books. If I had more time, I'd build a throne with the toilet paper rolls and watch people from it.
1. Bake goodies, like this, for everyone! Make life a little sweeter and fatter :). La vita dolce. What selfish things would you do?

| Blood Oranges. A thing of beauty.

A hybrid of the pomelo and the tangerine, blood oranges originated in Sicily. I've never been a fan of citrus fruits, but I've found myself making exceptions for blood oranges and clementines (infamously known as cuties!). I first laid eyes on this exquisite gem at a hostel in Catania, Italy. My memories of royal treatment only lends to fruit's association to ambrosia. And what makes this fruit unique is the hint of raspberry along with the vivid garnet color. It's like love at first sight.
| Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome
danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm
inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is
meaningful even if in a sense beyond our understanding; and that there
is always tomorrow. Dorothy Thompson
