Happy New Years to everyone!!!

Hope everyone had a great new years eve... I just met up with all my UT folk at Wynette's PIMPIN' condo (talk about cribz!!) and we just watched some Family Guy, drank some beer, had some shots, played some Wii... it was all good until after midnight when like, 10 other ppl came to crash the party and I ended up taking too many shots with Lui... that was the end of it.

I hope everyone got home safely last night -- enjoy the new year!!! 2008!!!

Merry Christmas, Steven

Friday, December 28, 2007

My dad has been thinking about getting a new car to replace his 14-year-old Mazda Miata (which actually still drives great... lots of fun to drive!) He's thinking about getting a new Porche Cayman sometime in the next year, so we went to go test drive it. Although my dad just wants the regular Porche Cayman, the representative got me a Cayman S to test drive (my dad had already test driven the regular Cayman last week).

I think I could see myself in this car, too, no?

So once again the Christmas spirit is upon us. Merry Christmas to all This morning, my family woke up around 10AM, and proceeded with out Saturday morning routine -- namely my father puts on some classical music in the living room and walks around outside, kicking fallen twigs aside and hits a few golf balls in the back while my mother prepares breakfast/lunch, and I either go back to sleep or play on the computer while listening to some jams.

Around 11AM, my mom calls us into the kitchen to have some breakfast, just some soup, rice, and kimchi--classic Korean snack And after we eat, is usually where we exchange gifts. Ever since I can remember, gifts for me have gotten smaller and smaller. When I was a little kid, I had gotten a nintendo for one christmas, super nintendo the next, and then came the sega genesis. One christmas I even got the Super Scope (which I think I used like, twice). But those days have dwindled down to none other than a mere envelope with some cash (just enough to have a couple good meals out) and a pat on the back. I got my parents a new set of cordless telephones because all our current land-line phones date back to the early 90's... i think they used to be white in color, but have all dinged with time to a nice yellowish, almost radioactive yolk color.

Additionally, the entire cluster of Christmas Festivities have floundered in direct proportion to my gifts. This is the first Christmas that we haven't had a fire going on. We usually take pictures of us opening gifts, but opening an envelope and a box of phones probably don't qualify for a Kodak moment. On top of all this, my dad is reading books and watching videos on Buddhism.

So really, what does Christmas mean for a non-Christian family like ours? Sorry to say, not really much. It means time off from work/school; time to see family and catch up with old friends. It means you have an excuse to buy yourself a gift. My homeboy bought himself a new digicam.

But really, I'm not "sorry to say" that because thats just the way it is for us, and I'm happy with that! After working 90 hour weeks for the past 3 months on Surgery, I NEED a break. After not having seen my parents for a good 5 months, I really miss them and want to spend time with them again. After being so busy and neglecting my oldest friends, it's important for me to catch up with friends and keep in touch. And I'm not complaining about the new computer either! So yeah, Christmas means something completely different to me than I guess it is historically supposed to mean, but I am definitely thankful for this Holiday.

So whatever Christmas means to you, I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and a safe holiday season.

So like a week and a half ago, my desktop computer (which I built myself during my freshman year at Emory) started giving me problems. I was trying to reformat the thing, and did so successfully, but when I tried installing the graphics card driver, the screen would go blank and there would be no more video output. I tried almost every video-card driver I could find for my particular card... everything resulted the same way. So I thought... well, I could just try buying a new graphics card... but the computer is so old, maybe I should just replace everything... oooorr... get a new computer
