| Wow, three months without an update. that's probably because my life has become fairly routine. I guess that's both a good and a bad thing. I'm finding it hard to walk the line between being patient for what God has in store for me in the future, being content where I am, and worrying about waking up in five years finding myself exactly where I am now. I know I've mentioned this before, but I still love catching all the local shows around town. A friend came in and wanted to see some live music so I took him to one of my favorite places, not knowing who was playing. It ended up being a guitarist from the Allman Brothers who is lengendary in the guitarist circles. Looking through the credits of the new Passion album, I noticed people that I know and get to hear every week at a ministry that is busting loose. Can a life be routine and exciting at the same time? I'm still getting studio sessions whenever I can, I did one about three weeks ago that went really well, so well they were asking for business cards to pass around to their friends. For those who don't realize how incredibly hard it is to break into a town like Nashville, that's huge. When you ask a producer/engineer their story, it always seems to start with "Well, I used to clean a studio and got sessions on my spare time....". Finally saw "August Rush" last night. The acoustic instrumentals was incredibly catchy. As far as the movie, I thought they tried to pack too much story into too little time which resulted in holes throughout the movie, but overall I enjoyed it. Well, catch you in three months... | | |
| Well, I am officially a victim of home invasion. That's right, a week ago I came home from work to find my door kicked in, my place wrecked, and some things stolen. My cell phone was one of those things so sorry if you've tried to call me. They only really got small things (cell phone, credit cards I don't carry on me, some speakers and some movies). The most frustrating part was sitting in Nashville rush hour traffic (that would test anybody's patience anytime) trying to find a friend that was home so I can use their phone to cancel credit cards that were stolen. After I made all the immediate calls I needed to make I went to Walmart to get a cheap prepaid phone, brought it home (my door couldn't be fixed til the next day) and started to plug it in for the battery to charge and SURPRISE, there's no battery for the phone to work. Then the next day my computer crashed and I spent two days reinstalling software. Most, if not all, of you who read this are close friends who will forgive my rudeness when I say that the past week has felt like the world has used my scrotum as a speed bag. HOWEVER some things I need to remember: "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" (it's true, but if somebody says it I'll punch them in the throat) "I have learned to be content in all things"-Paul' letter to the Phillipians (IN all things not FOR all things) "The Lord gives, the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord"-Job "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago"-David's Psalm "I am with you always, even the the ends of the age"-Jesus | | |
| In honor of it finally getting colder in Mid Tennessee I have been listening to my Transiberian Orchestra collection (coming to Nashville Dec. 30 baby!!) Is anybody else getting impatient w/ post college life? One of my friends just landed the gig of a lifetime and while I'm thrilled I have to say that there was just a twinge of jealousy mixed with it. I have to remember that it takes time to achieve what you want. I went to a Derek Webb/Sandra McCracken show last night and was amazed. I know it's one of his older songs but I think "King and a Kingdom" needs to be sung in every church on their 4th of July service: "My first allegiance is not to a flag or a country...it's to a King and a Kingdom", I got goosebumps several times throughout the show | | |
| I purchase two albums today; the new David Crowder album and one so unique I just had to get it. The soul searching sweetheart of bluegrass Alison Krauss has teamed up w/ the man whose voice defined rock and roll for over a decade, Robert Plant. It's incredibly rootsy and raw, almost like you're listening to a remastered recording from the 30's or 40's. The Crowder album is good, though it's almost an extension of "A Collision", the unreleased songs if you will. I've been in an interesting conversation and would love some opinion: what is our role in evangelism? And now for Mr. Billy Joel to sing about a New York state of mind... | | |
| Well the season premier of The Office did not disappoint, my favorite line: "I hit Meredith with my car, I owe it to her to finish this G D 5 K." And I think I have a new favorite show. Chuck is like a witty version of Alias, if you didn't catch the premier you can probably watch it online, I highly recommend it. Anybody want to come to Nashville and record an album? Anybody? | | |
