Dear Simulation Students,
There was a final on Thursday, where I have heard that there was rampant cheating. This is degrading and unfair on honest students who work hard in the course.
As you all know, we have to report any case
cheating to the Dean. Then the Dean conducts a hearing and if found guilty the punishment can be probabation or suspension. In addition an IEOR Dept policy states you will get 0 in the test you are caught cheating, (which means that in this case you will fail the course, as the test is final with lot of weight).
On Monday, I will be very proactive in trying to prevent cheating. I may ask you to change seats, check your text books and answerbooks for hidden material, etc. Much of this will be done randomly, so the fact that you are asked DOES NOT MEAN that you are a cheating suspect. I just thought that I will let you know so that you do not mind if you are asked (since I know that most of you are honest, and have nothing to do with cheating).
Also I have the following policy:
1. Just one person can go to the restroom at any given time. At most 1 trip allowed per person.
2. No baseball caps allowed as it hides eye movement.
3. All posessions, including cell phones should be placed in a bag, and the bag placed in the back or front of the room.
Best
Perwez
