i'm so stinkin' tired!  this is way too hard.  i never took updates from critics to well.

my mom is losing her kidney.  suprise.  news i learned right before i came back to this isolated spot in the hills.  back to square one.  memories of spending christmas after christmas in the hospital with my mom came rushing back to me.  i don't know what we did with the mini christmas tree we kept every year just in case.  i really do feel that having a positive outlook is overrated anymore.  i used to believe in it, but now...it just leads to a bigger dissapointment.

i want to work in a factory.

saw the fam and i'm better again.  got invited to a thing at church so i can meet people.  i like my church.  they have a harmonica player.  very blue ridge.  i also like the idea of drinking wine for fun at a church.  i think that's glorious.  i have to find my own apartment by january.  the search is on...but all i can find are apartments without air.  this doesn't seem to be such a big deal, but it gets hella hot here.

went on a field trip to see "the best christmas pageant ever" today at the flat rock playhouse.  it smelled like cat pee.  the play, however, was adorable.

this weekend i actually have plans...gasp.  i'm going shopping with teachers under the age of 50!  holy freakin' cow!  i do need an easel and a flipchart.

you know when you're depressed so you dress like crap on a stick.  well.....i've been so used to doing that that when i bought a skirt that was supa cute, i found myself out of my element.  dressing up is clearly not for me.  i say this because the brown boots i wore to match my skirt gave me rashes on the inside of my calves.  completely horrid and disturbing.

my roommate is going to Disney World next week with her non-boyfriend.  i'm left to babysit the dachshunds.  release the hounds!  sings:  all by myyyyyseeeeelffff.  don't wanna be....alllll by myyyyyyyyyyyself.  du du du da....

oh wait.  i'm going shopping.  i have friends.  nevermind the song.

i am by far the most difficult person to please in the entire world.  i'm in north carolina doing what i have been planning to do for years.  i went to school for this.  i climbed deeper and deeper into debt for this.  yet here i am blubbering cause i wanna go home.

i'm obviously spoiled rotton.

arg!  i have kidney stones again, but this time i've got pain killers!  there's a lot to be said about being prepared.

school is good.  it has its highs and its lows.  we've been preparing for outdoor education for awhile.  every fifth grade in the county goes to the southeren part of the county to a camp.  they get to participate in a lot of really great activities like rock climbing, a ropes course, a blindfolded rope maze, a four mile nature hike, firebuilding, fishing, team building drills, etc.  before we went, since i'm the science teacher for the entire fifth grade, i had to teach all the kids how to recognize a tree by its leaves.  so we did this leaf project where everyone made a book of identified leaves.  we learned about a whole lot of environmental lessons like how plants work, ecosystems, biomes, land formations, pollution, wildflower identification, etc.  when went to outdoor ed. on thursday and friday with another school, Atkinson.  thursday, we split into groups to mix Etowah students with Atkinson students.  we went on a hike to identify trees.  if this were a race, then etowah would have lapped atkinson on the tree identification!  i've never been that proud!  we also learned all about snakes, identified animals that live in ponds, and walked through the woods blindfolded and identified trees without being able to see them!  i had such an amazing time.  by far, the best field trip i've ever seen organized!

everything else is alright!  i'm coming home for Christmas.  I was home a couple weeks ago for Angelique's wedding.  mom altered my dress so i didn't breathe all day, but it was still a day that will go on my list of the best days ever!  if you know angelique then you know what i'm talking about.  there was something really amazing happening as they were saying their vows!  i can't describe it.  someone once said that their favorite part of the wedding is to look back at the groom as the bride walks down the aisle.  her favorite part is seeing the groom's face light up.  i'm stealing that favorite moment now, because i find myself doing the same thing!  i saw jordan's face when he saw angelique in her dress for the first time.  i saw the realization that yes she was going to be his wife.  i saw all sorts of thoughts go through that boy's head!  i have to say that i am not at all worried that i've met her husband a few times and haven't had the time to size him up yet.  i saw all i needed to see in about 30 seconds.

i miss you all.

broke up with robert because....well, he's there and i'm here.....in north carolina.  school is going well.  i didn't go in today because of the flu and kidney stones...at the same time.  not fun, but tomorrow i'm coming back with a vegence and tests.

funny teacher story.

i teach fifth grade science.  there is a boy, colby, in my homeroom and he's so adorable.  one day we had this conversation.

colby: miss tharp, do you have a boyfriend?

me: colby?!  what's it to you?

colby: i just want to know if you're available.

me:  colby, you can't say that to me!

colby:  i can say that to you, but you can't say that to me.

me: (trying not to laugh)  yes, colby.  i have a boyfriend.

colby: can't blame a guy for tryin'.

i thought i would share that with you all.
