| | It's a Big, Big House... Today I had another reminder that in spite or my own mental self-image-- kinda frozen in time at a weight-lifting buffed, 34 inch waisted, 19-20 year old-- that guy is pretty far gone despite my best efforts to eliminate any mirror around the house that tries to force reality on me.
Today all of the west coast is experiencing one of the largest storms in 20 years with near record low barometric pressures that may match that of The Perfect Storm of George Clooney movie fame. As the tightly wound system approaches Portland, we knew our 24 foot, 3 story high gutters were clogged causing water to seep into our basement. I had to do something before we had a much worse problem.
Unfortunately, our famous "Gutter Blaster" (actually the Gutter Blaster II) invention of 2-3 years ago appears to have gone on vacation-- perhaps stolen (a regular occurrence in our urban neighborhood). That left me climbing up our "24 foot" ladder to the "24 foot" high gutters. Doing the math, you might realize we really should have a 26 foot ladder.
So there I am. Though a mentally 19-20, buffed and a muscular 190lbs-- in reality a nearly 52 year old, cozier, but significantly more rotund frame of a young grandfather nearly hanging off one lone roof joyce 3 stories above ground, atop a nearly vertical extension ladder scooping out handfuls of gutter crap.
All I have to say is I came down alive this time, but was pretty shaken up there.
I'm thinking a 100 year old, 4 floor house is getting larger and more challenging by the month. A 2 bedroom condo sounds pretty good right about now.
I'm going on a diet again. Too bad their isn't a one that rewinds 10 or 15 years off the chronological odometer.
