| Car Shopping:
I bought the Passat ... now I just need somewhere to park it! (Our
garage is rather cluttered and can only fit my dad's Camary... I
can't park it on the driveway either cause then it'd be under this huge
trees where the birds, shall we say, like to bombard pretty extensively,
heh.
Anyways ... thanks to everyone who commented and helped out in the
process! I can get around now, yay! One week of freedom before I start
work, haha!

I'm pretty much set on the Passat GLX 4motion, I'm getting the
most value out of my money. Went for a test drive today and liked
it quite a bit. But man, getting a car from a individual seller
is pretty complicated but it's worth it for the savings. The same
car from carmax would cost me at least $21,000. So I'm quite
happy with the price. Thanks to Andrew and Sam for coming out and
having a look with me.

I'm going to be starting work on May 17th which gives me like a
week or so to buy a car. I did some hunting tonight and came up
with a few cars I'm considering. Note that I'm not really looking
for anything super-fast or super cool. Just a safe, reliable, and
comfortable mid-sized sedan (which the except of the Saab 9-3, which is
a bit smaller) here are the top 4 in the order than I found them.
1. 2003 Volkswagen Passat GLX V6 4motion (AWD): 30,300 miles - $17,000
2. 2003 Honda Accord EX: 21,000 miles - $17,700
3. 2003 Saab 9-3 Linear: 32,000 miles - $15,000
4. 2003 Honda Accord EX: 45,000 miles - $16,000
5. 2003 Volvo S60 2.4: 29,000 miles - $16,900
I'm going to assume that these prices will be somewhat
negotiable. The Saab would be nice, except I imagine it'd be harder
to maintain though it's still under warranty. Only thing is, if
I'm thinking long-term (ie 5-6 years down the road) I may need a bigger
car. The Passat is probably the nicest of the
vehicles though on the expensive side, especially at $19K. In the
end, I'm probably going to get the best value and reliability from the
Accord and the EX (they're both 4-cylinder) is pretty nice so I guess
we'll see.
Anyhow, I'd appreciate the any thoughts or suggestions, thanks!

| Got a verbal job offer from Institutional Shareholder Services today.
But what I really need is for God to give me a sermon for Sunday!
We live by faith and not by sight.

| A big time Epiphany!
Alright for those of you who've been waiting for me to impart
some great stroke of wisdom that I perchance across every once in
awhile, I am sorry to disappoint you...
I'm talking about 5'9 Epiphany Prince who scored 113 points in a high
school girls basketball game in for Murry Bergtraum High School in a
137-32 win
over Brandeis High School in NYC. 113 BABY! That's
ridiculous, well 137-32 is pretty ridicuolous too. But seriously,
how good can this girl be?
I love this quote: "I was telling some college coaches before the game
that in the (Public
School Athletic League) the competition isn't that great, and that I
thought I
might get bored." Obviously this girl knows that she's good - but
confidence or cockiness? Well, I guess when you deliever 113
points you're entitled to make belittling comments about the
competition?
As for the opposing coach, I don't think he was very impressed saying,
"It's nothing against Epiphanny ... have
great admiration for her. This was an adult decision. Why would you do
this
against a team like ours? ... She didn't earn this. It was like picking
on a
handicapped person." Now, apparently this coach doesn't really
think very highly of his girls. I mean come on, call your own
team "handicapped," coaches are supposed to motivate but if a coach
called a team I was on handicapped, no matter what level I played at, I
think it'd be pretty debilitating!
It raises an interesting question though, how does sportsmanship come
into play in these lopsided games, especially if a shot at history is
at stake. Earlier in the year Kobe Bryant had a shot an
immortality scoring 61 through three quarters, but the Lakers had a 30
point lead so he sat out the final quarter. As if rewarded for that show of
"sportsmanship" he was rewarded with an 81 point outburst brining his
team back against Toronto. I think it's a tough question to
answer, is Prince's performance tainted by the fact that she was
feasting on an obviously inferior opponent? I don't know.
I do know, however, that 48-54 shooting , 4-4 from downtown, 1-2 of
the line can be chalked up as a pretty good night on the
hardwood. | | |
| Just for the record, I went to bed at 6am and got up at 1pm. Ok ... time to go make money.
***
Ok, I admit it, I have a problem...
My sleeping hours are WHACK! 4am to 2pm is usually what I'm doing
these days... yea, not good at all. I need some reform so I
thought maybe I'll just stay up all night and sacraligiously pull an
"all-nighter" for no particular reason. (All-nighters are usually
reserved for "special occasions," usually meaning finals weeks, which I
no longer get to partake in, and congrats to all those who have just
completed it at the U of C by the way.) I am armed with lots and
lots of caffine but still ... is this a good idea, probably not, but I
figure if I pull it off I'll be able to sleep tomorrow night a good
hour and then wake up early and refreshed for church on Sunday.
Now that sounds fabulous.
Now, with that goal in mind ... yeah, I'll probably be in bed and asleep in 1/2 hr.
... sadness, heh.
