Barbara Woods
12/23/1944 - 9/19/2003

Our friend Barb Woods won her battle with ALS this morning. Her husband, Kent, called Teri/craktpot to tell him she had gone home (how sweet of him in such a difficult time.)

Barb always had a laugh or a smile to share, though she was limited by her disease. She loved flowers, children, jokes, people and life. This quote was found on her site and she pretty much lived by it:

"I live by this credo:
Have a little laugh at life and look around you
for happiness instead of sadness.
Laughter has always brought me out of unhappy situations.
Even in your darkest moment,
you usually can find something to laugh about
if you try hard enough."
- Red Skelton -
.··-.¸.-··. (`'·.¸(`'·.¸ ¸.·'´)¸.·'´) .··-.¸.-··.
`·. GOD LOVES YOU .·´

She has gone home... no more stays in bed, no wheel chairs, no more having to use a computer to communicate, no pain or suffering. She is in heaven and free... she can see Jesus and she can walk, laugh, talk and dance!

Please keep her husband and family in your prayers. If you wish to contact them via snail mail, their address is listed below.

We love you, ~Barb~!
Thanks for all the laughter shared across the miles.
We will miss you, but are glad you suffer no more.
Someday, we will see you again, dear sister & friend.

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes.
There will be no more death or mourning
or crying or pain,
for the old order of things
has passed away."
Revelation 21:4

Mardi Gras, also known as Shrove Tuesday or Carnival, annual festival marking the final day before the Christian fast of Lent, a 40-day period of self-denial and abstinence from merrymaking. Mardi Gras is the last opportunity for revelry and indulgence in food and drink before the temperance of Lent. The term Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday.”

The date of Mardi Gras varies from year to year, always falling between February 3 and March 9

Although Mardi Gras refers often encompasses a much longer period of celebrations leading up to Mardi Gras Day. The Carnival season is marked by spectacular parades featuring floats, pageants, elaborate costumes, masked balls, and dancing in the streets.

Some scholars have noted similarities between modern Mardi Gras celebrations and Lupercalia, a fertility festival held each February in ancient Rome. However, modern Carnival traditions developed in Europe during the Middle Ages (5th century to the 15th century) as part of the ritual calendar of the Roman Catholic Church.

Today pre-Lenten Carnivals are celebrated predominantly in Roman Catholic communities in Europe and the Americas. Cities famous for their celebrations include Nice, France; Cologne, Germany; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. New Orleans, Louisiana, holds the most famous Mardi Gras celebration in the United States. Residents of New Orleans have been celebrating Mardi Gras since the 18th century. Mobile, Alabama, has a lesser known but equally old Mardi Gras tradition. Mardi Gras is informally observed in many North American cities, usually invoking the spirit of the New Orleans festivities.

Friday, February 28, 2003
