| some people REALLY do not deserve petsthere are 6 of us living in our apartment this summer. one of the
girls, ashley, had some kittens on her farm and wanted to bring one. we
were all for it, so we said yes. katie and i fell in love with her
immediately.

we named her weetzie, and she became basically ours.
recently, we'd been trying to find a home for her, so she wouldn't have
to go back to the farm or go to a pound or something. a couple of days
ago, one of katie's mom's coworkers said she'd keep her, and that after
we graduate, we can even take her, since she's ours. we'll get to see
her lots, and sinda will basically be weetzie's foster mother until we
can take her home with us after college.
so we get to keep our kitten. that's the happy part of the story.
now.
apparently, one of our roommates (one who was VERY anxious to "get rid
of the cat" as she herself has put it... funny, since she was the one
who came to me and said "ashley wants a kitten, will it bother you??")
got locked out of the apartment on saturday. she had to get a reslife
person to let her in, and the reslife person saw our kitten and said
she had to go away. this was saturday. yesterday afternoon, the person
in charge of reslife sent out an email to everyone in our apartment
telling us that we have 24 ours to get rid of the cat, otherwise we'll
be charged $100 for every day she remains.
this is not the part i'm upset about. this is the part that makes me go "well, we went this long without getting caught. go us!"
no. this is the part i'm upset about.
katie and i would never have known. neither of us had checked our email
for a few days. alexis (roommate) told heather (her friend who lives
across the hall) what happened and that we had to get rid of weetzie.
heather told melissa (her friend and katie's coworker). melissa told
katie she was sorry about what happened with weetzie. katie was
clueless, so melissa told her what had happened.our roommates can tell
everyone else EXCEPT the people who actually love and care about the
kitten and are planning on taking her. so here's the real kicker.
katie and melissa came back to our apartment during break so katie
could put weetzie in her carrier in melissa's room, so she could take
her home after work this afternoon. when they got to the apartment
parking lot, they heard angry yowling coming from somewhere outside the
building. weetzie was in a THREE FOOT DEEP window well, stuck, angry,
and scared to death. there is absolutely no way she could have gotten
out of the building on her own. there's no way she could get out of our
room on her own. that would be
three doors (two that pull, and the last one is a really heavy door
that you have to push, and all three have handles) that she would've
had to open, plus we live upstairs, and the one time she managed to
slip past me into the hallway, she wouldn't go down the stairs because
they seemed to scare her. she's never been outside here. we feel that
one of our roommates took her outside and was going to tell us that she
ran away, so they wouldn't have to deal with it.
weetzie is currently on the way to katie's house in lincoln in her
carrier in katie's car. she seems to have been traumatized by the
events of today and being stuck in a small carrier inside a moving
vehicle has caused her to become carsick. poor kitten, but she's going
to a better place where no one will neglect her and everyone will love
her.
as for my roommates... i am furious.
<edit>
so, i was in my room when all my roommates came home from work today.
kate said, "hey emilea, do you know what happened to the cat?" emilea
said, "well, there's a note on my door that says that katie took her,
but ashley put her outside this morning." kate said, "yeah, because
alexis and i were going to take her to the humane society if we saw her
outside, but she was gone, so we were just wondering."
i told katie all of this, and she told me that all 4 of our roommates
knew the detailed plan of her taking weetzie, when, where, everything.
so instead of telling us what happened, they just put her outside and
leave her to the mercy of hot weather and animals in the forest. nice.
good people.

| pointlessi hate that i have come to depend on xanga to keep tabs on my friends'
lives. if i'm going to be so dependent on the internet, why not use
email? that's at least more personal than a blog which everyone is free
to read.
i'm not saying that i'm going to completely stop visiting this site.
it's sometimes fun to see the random happenings of people. but my close
friends, or people that i used to be close with and miss a great deal,
deserve more than that. i'm going to try to be less
xanga-oriented and try to actually connect with those who i wish to
stay in contact with, whether it be through email, snail mail, or phone
calls.

| for those of you who knew about it, katie's dad's surgery went well.
the day of, he was talking and the doctors had him standing and
marching in place. day after, he's talking, walking, eating solid
foods, and being as sassy as ever. his recovery should go well.
now i just have to make it through greek week (not me personally, but
supporting my girl, her sister, my roommate, and everyone else involved
in one way or another) and then spring break will be here.
