Saturday was Ocean Science Bowl. This year's Ocean's Bowl is rather
special. This is probably my last competition in LA regional with my
fellow JPL and USC moderators and other volunteers. During the past 4
years, I've gotten to know many of these long time volunteers very well
and established many friendships and connections with them and students from a number of the schools. This year's competition started with Tom Nolan taking Joe, Anson, and me to USC. From that point on, the day was just got more and more busy. The first five rounds ended at 12:45 when it should have ended at 12:00. When I got out of the five rounds of round robin, I grabbed my burrito. Within 5 minutes, 1/3 of my burrito, Sue told me that Kim wanted me back in the central to do tie breakers. I did the tie breaker for Mark Keppel. (I have finally been on both ends of every part of the game :P ). Right after that, we had to start Double Elimination. This is the first time I've been picked for the first two rounds of Double Elimination. (Thank you for those of you who rated me high. You know who you are.) First game was Troy vs Mark Keppel with Troy 102 and Mark Keppel 47. After that, I had Troy vs Woodbridge with Troy 94 and Woodbridge 78. Terry and Vincent moderated the next two rounds. I moderated the last 3 rounds, all 3 were very very tight games. This is the first time for the past few years that we had to do an extra round at the end because the undefeated team got beaten. A big congratz to Troy, Arcadia, and SAMO. SAMO, in my opinion, this year's SAMO ocean bowl team has the best sportsmanship in the past 6 years. Ever since a student, my coach has always told us that nothing's more important than sportsmanship. Troy, I admire your constant willingness to work really hard to do be the best. No other teams has gotten as close to SAMO as you guys have, time over time. Not to mention that you guys beat them in the final round this year! Arcadia, you guys have surpass everything that we've done when I was on the team. I'm proud of you guys for doing so well. You guys continued to keep up the good reputation and sportsmanship that we have left even with Ms Vorak as a new coach who has no prior experience with these academic teams. And of course, congratz to Ms Vorak for coaching such wonderful teams. All the wonderful memories here from the past 4 years won't be forgotten.

Congratz to Rico for being the new Page
House Ath Man! And that means I've finish my term being the Page
Secretary. Having been on Excomm for the past year plus a few months
being the Secretary and Treasurer, I've learned a bit more about working with
administration and working with a large group of people. It has been a
lot of fun serving on the Excomm. Life’s
gonna be a little difference now that I’m done.
On one hand, I’ll now have more time to hang out. Yesterday, for example, I went out to lunch and
dinner with my friends. :) On the other hand, I’ll miss working with my
fellow Excomm and working for my House. Best
wishes to the new Excomm!

| Yesterday was Science Bowl. I think we had the larger amount of Techers helping out so far this year. Anson, Ben, and I moderated while Joe, Anguel, Roger, ZeNan, and George time and score kept. Below is the result from yesterday:
Good job everyone!

| It's been more than a month. Done with grad school application and things are finally back to normal.....well, somewhat :)
Here's a recap of this past month: Jan 8: Frank asked me to be a grading TA :) For each section of the Sophomore Physics Lab, there is a graduate TA and an undergrad TA. Since we're short a graduate TA, Frank asked me to do the job of the grad TA :) I'm learning so much more about these labs as a grad TA. This has been a blast.
Jan 12: North Hollywood Invitational. We overstacked our volunteers. The competition went very smoothly. Congratz to Joe and George for another successful competition and a big thank you to all the volunteers for being patient with us. Dean Hall and Dr. O'Neal were at the invitational and they were very impressed by how well we handled the invitational. They believe that it will be possible to host a competition in the future at Caltech! :)
Last weekend, I went over to DC to help with the Scioly National Invitational with Joe. Alex waited for Joe and I at the airport. Alex judged Mystery Arch all by himself. Yes, Alex's a full fledge National Event Sup now! Congratz Alex! I judged Robot Ramble with Jim Boyd from New York and Joe. I had a lot of fun judging. I really miss judging since Joe and I facilitate the competition nowadays.
And of course, LA regional science bowl is coming up a week from yesterday! I'm looking forward to see everyone again.
Last but not least, I can finally go back to lab now. It's been a bumpy month at home, but with all the kinks ironed out, it's time to get back! I can't wait until I finish my calculations and continue with the fabrication!

| Thanks for all the presents, everyone :)
So on Wednesday, I woke up to the smell of something burning. I thought that maybe it was the smell of pot, but I wasn't sure what pot smells like. And further more, why would there be pot in my house? Apparently, my mom left the stove on over night and burnt the pot of soup. It's been about 2 days now and yes the house still smell burnt. My mom suggested lighting candles to get rid of the burnt smell. The candles didn't really get rid of the smell, but at least it's really Christmasy :)
