You know those millions of dollars unaccounted for in Iraq? I think I found them. They seem to have been spent to put on the Ft. Drum Salute to the Nation firework show Thursday night. It was, dare I say, spectacular. I'm a sucker for fireworks, though, and then when you add the band playing along with the fireworks, I'm a goner. Nothing beats the Overture of a 1812 with cannons. From there it transitioned right into the fireworks. The band kept playing seeming to coincide with the crescendos and decrescendos of the fireworks. Definitely glad I went.
Also Thursday, I got my orders out of this craphole. Not out of the army, or even out of this post, but another unit across the street - a unit that is not stoplossed, so there's a chance I can get out. There's also a chance that I have to go to Afghanistan, starting in Jan or Feb. Now, this may seem crazy because it would require an extra 18-24 months on my contract, but I wouldn't mind going back there. I had a great time before, and I was only there 4 months. It's for a cause I believe in (unlike Iraq), it has beautiful mountains, and I get to chase around legitimate bad guys - this time in a helicopter. How cool is that? I'm just trying to prepare myself for the possibility, so that I'm not completely shattered when my plans for a discharge are cancelled.
The terrible humidity is gone, too! It's a cool 67 degrees right now, and my room isn't a sweat box! It was actually chilly this morning when I went for a drive! Craziness.
