Me & My Monkey
By Orchestra Harlow
Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me & My Monkey
see related

It’s been a rough week.

Not that the week before finals has ever been pie, but this one was pretty exceptional.

I didn’t want to tell everyone this way, but since my GOOBER boyfriend’s already written it all over his xanga, I figured it was time I came clean.

To be frank, I have fleas.

Yup, the little buggers are up there.  Crawling around in between the threads of my silken hair, burrowing into the soft white skin of my scalp and creating tiny homes for their little flea-lings just in time to gobble up Christmas pudding and roast chestnuts on an open fire.

At first I was a little worried about having them up in my hair, but then that Christmas chapel filleth-ed me so full of spirit that I’m more worried I won’t be a good host to them this holiday season.  Seriously, isn’t that what Christmas is all about?  If I can’t even reach out to “the least of these” God’s creatures, what am I?  A clanging cymbal?  A noisy gong?  Neither of those sound nice.

Unfortunately, my mother is insisting I do something about the “problem” so I’m looking into getting what’s called a “pest extermination monkey.”  It’s kind of like a Seeing Eye dog, but not.

It’s a small monkey that would perch on my shoulder, routinely rummaging through my head for fleas.  I’ve set up a meeting with Student Life for Monday to discuss the implications of what they call “introducing a new species to our delicate ecosystem.”  Apparently he’s a fire hazard too (unless I can confine him/her to a “3’x  4’ x 2’ cage with 1” titanium build bars, steel alloy combination lock with a nonflammable, anti-toxin air purifying filter and don't store him within two feet of the ceiling).

But alas, hope springs eternal.  Until then I’m more concerned about whether I should get the dark one with brown spots or the blondish one with brown spots.  Any ideas?

(don't they come so cute?!)

Yesterday I walked outside and thought I smelled pumpkin pie.

I breathed again and realized it was probably just the manure from some distant field.

........

I am seriously questioning my grandmother's pumpkin pie.

O - and Keith and I believe in the plurality of meanings we derive from texts.

Katharine Hepburn
You scored 21% grit, 28% wit, 57% flair, and 9% class!
You are the fabulously quirky and independent woman of character. You go your own way, follow your own drummer, take your own lead. You stand head and shoulders next to your partner, but you are perfectly willing and able to stand alone. Others might be more classically beautiful or conventionally woman-like, but you possess a more fundamental common sense and off-kilter charm, making interesting men fall at your feet. You can pick them up or leave them there as you see fit. You share the screen with the likes of Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant, thinking men who like strong women.

Find out what kind of classic leading man you'd make by taking the Classic Leading Man Test.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 43% on grit

Band of Gold: Best
By Freda Payne
Band of Gold - I know...old stuff...but it's fun : )
see related

I'm twenty now.   So weird...and yeah, it actually does feel a little different.  But...that's probably just me.

So last spring Finke and I stumbled upon this amusing little website...

http://www.worldviewweekend.com

It's a great site.  You should go there.

And while you're there...take their little worldview test.  I dare you.

Find out (in approximately 30 minutes or so - I warned ya ) what kind of thinker you are.  Are you down with your Bible and love for the good ole U. S. of A.?  Well then you just may be a "Strong Biblical Worldview Thinker."

OR perhaps you slept through a few too many of those "unnecessary" CLT classes...in which case, you may only merit a "Moderate Biblical Worldview Thinker" rating.

Influenced too much by the wickedness of the world?  You probably have a "Secular Humanist Worldview."

If you're just a plain heathen...be prepared for "Socialist Worldview Thinker" or..."Communist/Marxist/Socialist/Secular Humanist" (my personal favorite  ... i can just imagine them getting organized and having some "worldview weekends" of their own.  "Hi, I'm a Communist/Marxist/Socialist/Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker.  What are you?").

Last time I took it I was a "Socialist."  Now I'm just a "Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker."    What happened over the summer?  Pshaw...no idea.  Some of the more interesting highlights  :

Section: Civil Government section score: 18%
Socialist Worldview Thinker

Section: Economics section score: 22%
Socialist Worldview Thinker

Section: education section score: 25%
Secular Humanist Worldview Thinker

*darn it...i knew they'd find me out someday!*

(If you're interested, you can find all my results here:  http://www.worldviewweekend.com/test/results.php?regid=9d7bb7580ee156ea2ede33ffe4faf9b0&testid=WORLDVIEW&takeid=54df356f35c6d1b63b37a480d02f76a6 ).

So what have I learned from this exercise?

That I am a deeply disturbed young woman who has waaaaay too much time on her hands.

But seriously, try it yourself.  It's absolutely enlightening.  Right....finke?

(nOw...finke, I hope you're satisfied....)
