I'm attempting smaller posts more often, so here goes,

If you saw Emily's post here are some other details of our marathon.

After using up all the free stuff (surplus gathered from various sources) we had to make a trip to Home Depot.

The hand that helped us bring the stuff out of the store said "is this the only truck you've brought?

We said yes and proceeded to stack the 20 something rolls of pink stuff and 25 sheets of foam board in to the little Nissans bed. We stuffed 3 or 4 rolls in the cab with me and Nina. We stuffed several rolls in Nates car and off to the races went.

We put the boards over the stairs so we could reach the ceiling. Dan tried to walk up the stairs and ran out of headroom. HA

Where can we put this piece of pink stuff?

paul's elk 001.jpg

My boss went elk hunting and shot what was reportedly the largest ever taken from that area. (Colorado, I think) This mount was sitting on the floor leaning against the box that it was shipped in, and the tallest tine was at my eye level. (I'm 6ft)  I would call it a 12 point, but in elk hunter terms, it's called a 6 by 6.

One of our biggest jobs, is a large dormatory for University of Houston. It's really pretty fancy for a dorm. It's more like condo's. there's like seven buildings that vary from about 9 to 13 levels that join together at some point above the ground level.

Another biggie across town is going to be two 30 story condo's. This is all thats left of a 3 story building that was on that site.

If these walls look like they're leaning, it's because just to the left of this picture is ...

this machine pulling the steel out from amongst the wood and stuff while taking the building down a little at a time.

The owners donated anything that was salvagable to Habitat for Humanity before the wrecking crew moved in. They had gutted the building, salvaging the aluminum door and window frames, a/c units, light fixtures, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, wooden siding and anything of worth that they could re-use or sell for scrap.

It was a sad day indeed when we had to box up and return the Nikor 70-200mmf2.8VR that we rented for our month of weddings.  It's definitely high up on our photog' equipment wish list.

the river

here's a quick update...

We've done 3 weddings in the last few weeks. Dan is working on post processing (a little photographer lingo) while I'm trying to catch up at my real job.

After the last wedding festivities in San Antonio, we traveled up the road to New Braunfuls for a little much needed "are and are".

The original plan was to stay until Tuesday, but when Tuesday came much too quickly, Nina and I called our bosses and arranged to stay an extra day.

here's a few pictures of our little mini vacation...

Nina's sister, Bettye and her husband Scooter are park hosts all summer at a camp on the Guadalupi river in New Braunfuls. We camped out next to their camper above the campground.

We didn't have any cell phone reception, (which was great!) but Bettye has a wireless router hooked up to her DSL in the camper, so we all had internet.

dad's river trip 063.jpg dad's river trip 066.jpg

We had great weather even though it was kinda hot and humid.

dad's river trip 101.jpg

I would love to take my camera down the river. There's so many beautiful spots that aren't accessible without floating down the river because of private property. Bettye takes hers in a plastic bag gizmo and gets it out on the calm parts of the river.

I WILL do this again! We had such a great time just chillin'

This still doesn't get me caught up, but it's a start

Tanks for lookin'

Lightnin'

Well, I aught to be sleeping, but there was a pretty amazing light show goin' on outside and I couldn't resist it.

So, I set up my tripod and fired away.

We've got a lot of trees, so I had to find an open spot out by the road.

I didn't think those power lines would show up so well.

You may be wondering... How does Bill drive all day with narcolepsy?

I had to drive to San Antonio the other day.

(for work, not for our anniversary)

I left about 4am cause I had had to go to Katy first. Caught a train in Magnolia, so  I decided to fire up the Nikon.

san antonio work trip 046.jpg

Later, there was a pretty cool sunrise coming up behind me.

If fiddling with the camera while driving doesn't  keep me awake,

I bring along my laptop and the cool Verizon mobile broadband gizmo. Oh, and a few snacks to munch on.

(snacks including, but not limited to... Cokes in the cooler, Ritz toasted chips, bag of dubble bubble, life savers, almond m&m's etc.)

san antonio work trip 083.jpg

(and yes, that's my grandbaby on my wallpaper)

I didn't take pictures of the backhoe and the skytrack that I changed oil in. (too boring)

On the way home I got sidetracked...

this may be the new thing for all those cars in the 'hood with tires and wheels that are worth more than the car

 san antonio work trip 094.jpg

I took some backroads to get home

 (one of my favorite things)

I documented a few of the small towns that I passed through.

Saw this church in Praha.

Saw this cool old building in Flatonia.

(photo shoot location!!!)

san antonio work trip 187.jpg

You can tell they have a lot of business by the grass growing in the parking lot

(I took most of these through the window while driving, so they're not my best shots.)

(I love Round Top)

san antonio work trip 248.jpg

This is one of my favorite rest stops. Nina and I drove there to have a picnic once. It's between Brenham and Burton. It's got a little rocky stream and lots of trees.

san antonio work trip 265.jpg

Well I took about 300 photos that day, but it would take you all day to look at all of them.

(And it would take the rest of the weekend to caption them)

So that's it for now,

bill,

(the narcoleptic driver in the oncoming lane of traffic)

Thanks for lookin'
