the wisdom of eating sushi in amarillo

it is august 14th.

i am in disbelief that 2008 is more than half over.  we actually had a nice day on monday - it was 85 and breezy and gave hope that the other season texas has (not summer) may actually arrive, soon.  these days of triple digit temps exhaust me and make everyone grumpier than a cat in water.

last weekend we traveled to amarillo for our nephew's wedding.  yes, i have a 22 year old nephew.  i also have a 25 year old niece and a great niece and great nephew.  these are thanks to my sister-in-law.   it was an odd weekend to say the least.

we had to travel out there on thursday as it is a 6+ hour drive and the wedding was on the supposedly numerically fortuitous date of 08-08-08.  we got a hotel room for the weekend and intended to spend time with s.i.l., the bride and groom and others in addition to attending the wedding.  we ended up doing none of that.  thank you, family drama.  i hate family drama and am very thankful that my immediate family does not have the issue of drama such that hubby's family does.  we spent 4 days and hotel charges to sleep, watch tv and wait for the phone to ring (which it never did).  not my idea of fun.  i regret the expenditure and am angry about the family stupidity.  (must let it go)

saturday night, hubby and i did go out for dinner.  we consulted the AAA book for a restaurant and after driving down the highway decided on a sushi place.  realizing the possible gastronomical implications of this choice, we made a pact to dial 911 should food poisoning ensue.  it did not.  the sushi was good.  the atmosphere was, well, odd like most of the weekend, and involved a boat and a computer guided rainstorm indoors.

yeah, it was odd.

monday

pad thai and a blueberry and peach smoothie for lunch.
scale says i'm down a pound.  it better.  diets suck.
sister-friend is pregnant and due next march.
i'm not and i'm jealous.  i cried this morning.
go forth and multiply they say.  i'm trying i say.

peach-blueberry smoothie
1/2c. frozen blueberries
1/2c. frozen peaches (chop into smaller chunks so blender can do its thang)
1/2c. orange juice
1/4c. vanilla yogurt (light variety or not)
2Tbsp. wheat germ

put peaches and blueberries into blender and use ice crush to pulverize.  add orange juice and blend some more.  add wheat germ, yogurt and hit frappe.  pour into 16 oz. glass and enjoy!

the wheat germ is optional.  it adds some good fiber and protein, as well as a little nuttiness to the flavor.

for those of you on weight watchers, this whole thing is 4 points and 3 servings of fruit.

mmmmmm.  vitamin c and anti-oxidants in a glass, oh my!

one of those women

i think i am becoming one of those women i did not want to be.  i think i am beginning to become obsessed with getting pregnant.

i have resisted.   i have tried to be laid back, nonchalant, but each month when aunt flo arrives, i find myself becoming more and more disappointed.

i even bought ovulation indicator, pee-on-the-stick things.

*sigh*

some women make this look so easy, this getting pregnant thing.  my bff, for instance.  one month off the pill and the girl was preggers.  or my other friends who never intended to ever become pregnant.  oops!  it's a baby!  friend number three, her plan worked like clockwork -  tah-dah!  paint the nursery blue, it's a boy!

two more months of "trying" without success and i have to take my aging ovaries back to the gynecologist.  oh joy!  poking, prodding and blood tests, oh my!  at least i know hubby will be subjected to some poking and prodding, as well.  it won't just be about me and my ovaries.

until then, wish me luck!  i'll be the one peeing on a stick to see if i'm ovulating.
