| I was all set to go donate plasma (and by donate, I mean sell). I drank a ton of water, popped my iron tablets, and made sure to eat a carbohydrate laden, low fat meal before I went. And they denied me. Apparently, I have weak veins. And weak veins mean that when the machine is sucking your plasma out and pushing the red blood cells back in, your veins break. Which is not cool.

My first week of field school is over! I love the people there, and I'm
building up some muscle... but damn I'm tired. It felt so good to take
a real shower when I got to my parents' house this afternoon. Except
for the artifacts that were exposed on the surface, we haven't found
jack so far, which makes it frustrating. We reached 50 cm today in our
pit, and still haven't reached anything.
Like
I said, everyone there is very cool. There's 16 of us crowded into 2
clasrooms at this elementary school, and we've had a lot of fun
"bonding" together, everything from celebrating Katie's 21st birthday
and innapropriate after dinner conversations to watching Hocus Pocus in
the boys' room. Most everybody is from KSU, although there is one girl
from Singapore, and one guy from Texas.
I don't have internet
access while at the school, but I do have phone service, so feel free
to call me anytime after 6pm and before 10pm (damn curfew).

Oh my bike. My beautiful, beautiful bike. OK, it's not beautiful, but
it's a classic, and it got me where I needed to go. Until I hit a bump.
Now I have scrapes and my bike makes a scraping noise. I got it mostly
bent back into shape, but I still had to walk back home. Incidentally,
it takes 17 minutes to walk from the Beach Museum to my house. I think
my bike is fixable. I just need to learn how to fix it.

GRRR. I just got an e-mail from one of the department professors about
a financially feasible, one month, HISTORICAL archeology fieldschool. http://www.moval.edu/Faculty/baumannt/joplin2006.htm
And I can't do it. I am already committed to do K-State's field school.
So instead of excavating a house and billiard hall in order to expand a
historic site, I will be digging up arrowheads. Not really the same.
But oh well, got to make the best of it I suppose. Field experience is
field experience. Still... wish I had known about this before.
| Holy crap, i just pulled out a white hair.
