Yankees Drop First Subway Series in Meeting With Crosstown Rivals
It seems that New York's other team may finally pose serious competition and put Big Apple bragging rights to rest. On a chilly night in the ever windy Shea Stadium, the Mets edged the Bombers 4-3 in a wild game.
If I was a Met fan, though, I would hardly call this win a time for celebration. Hey, the St. Louis Cardinals aren't going to leave 21 men on base in a post season game at Busch Stadium. Well, I digress. For the Yanks (and namely that third baseman guy over there), not to cash in on golden opportunities shows a serious crack in the armor.
But this is why it is a long baseball season. Teams and players slump, much to the chagrin of fans, only to come out in the end victorious. However, the Yanks now head into a tough series with the Boys from Beantown who I guarantee will not leave 21 of their own baserunners on.

I suppose the time has come to discuss Barry Bonds on this blog. With the embattled slugger now one homer away from passing the Bambino, many voices have called from the stands as to the legitimacy of the big basher's stats. Are those homeruns really legit? Did he take steroids? Will he get the record? Is he really a better hitter than the Babe or Aaron? I have now read several articles from major sports publications and am convinced that Bond's records should have an asterisk next to them. Here is a great article from ESPN.com which I think sheds light on this question. Here is another article from Sports Illustrated on whether Barry or the Babe rules. Leave me a comment on this subject. I'd love to hear what you all think. |
