  • God Redistributes His Lights

I started a new job today. Praise the Lord! It's a wonderful opportunity and I'm very thankful for it. Even still, I couldn't help but continue to wonder why God had chosen for me to have to find a new job.

At church last Sunday, some old friends were visiting, and several of us began to talk about families that over the years have had to leave the church due to relocating. I began to think about how often God seems to move us around; moving some from job to job, others from church to church. From our perspective, it would be nice if friends and family could always stay together, and no one we cared about ever had to leave. But, as I tried to think about it in terms of God's kingdom, I realized that there were certainly benefits from the greater perspective.

From early childhood (if you were raised attending church), you probably sang the song, "This little light of mine". It comes from such Bible verses as Matthew 5:16, where we are instructed to let our lights shine. From our study of the Bible, we know that we are not capable of being lights to the world without God. We also know that we would not desire to be lights to the world without the work of the Holy Spirit on our hearts. But I realized this week, that we would also have no opportunity to be lights to the world, without God providing it. He not only calls us to be lights, and enables us to be lights, but he sends us out into the world, in the right place at the right time according to His plan.

So, when someone moves on to a new location or a new job, it may simply be a matter of God redistributing His lights, into locations that need it more at that moment. If, as we move on, we keep in mind our central and most basic task in life, to serve God and be His lights to the world, then perhaps we can better deal with the changes and losses.

  • Freedom

Has any group of humans in the history of our world had more Freedom than a Christian living in the United States of America?

I was thinking today about the parallels of Christ shedding his blood to give His children Freedom, and Americans shedding their blood to give us the Freedom we experience in this country. It's amazing what that combination of blood shed has resulted in, for us Christians living here in the U.S.

We are free from Sin, to know the importance of reading the Bible every day, and we are free in this country to do so privately and publicly. So,

Do you read your Bible everyday, and appreciate that Freedom?

We are free to be able to communicate with our Lord and Savior in prayer every day, and free to do so privately and publicly...in restaurants, in church, wherever we are. So,

Do you appreciate and exercise the Freedom of Prayer every day?

We are free in Christ to understand the special gift God has given us: the gift of salvation; of forgiveness; of eternal life. In this country we have the freedom to tell others all about those gifts from God. So,

Do you use your freedom of speech to tell other's about Christ, knowing that the worst you face is most likely only verbal abuse?

We are free to pursue any dream we have that we believe God is calling us to, without worry of physical persecution, or the government telling us what to do. In this country there is no limit to what one can accomplish, and we know that God says with as little faith as a mustard seed, we can move mountains. So I ask you,

Are you pursuing your dreams and goals, knowing God can help you reach them?

    Are you moving mountains?

If you aren't as close to God as you want to be; if you don't have the faith you should, if you can't yet move mountains, then remember that because of the bloodshed of Christ and past Americans, you have the freedom to pray and read God's Word and talk to others about what He's done, all of which will help you grow closer to God, and to grow in faith. And, this is possible without threat of violence, persecution, or being locked up for your faith.

    That, is unbelievable Freedom.

  • My Pilot

I found this quote today, from John Calvin, and had to share it with you. What an encouraging reminder.
"Seeing that a Pilot steers the ship in which we sail, who will never allow us to perish even in the midst of shipwrecks, there is no reason why our minds should be overwhelmed with fear and overcome with weariness."
    -John Calvin

  • Hobby and New Web Site

A new hobby of mine that I first tried about four months ago, is Disc Golf. I became addicted to it about 10 minutes into my first time playing. Three weeks ago, I launched a new web site, where I could write about my new interest, and gain further experience producing content on the Internet (and hopefully make some sales from Google Adsense).

The new site is www.yourdiscgolfreporter.com, and if you have a minute check it out and learn about a really fun game. I'm hoping it's a start to achieving my new goal.
