Submission to Relevant Magazine

I'm trying to write a piece that would fit in seamlessly at Relevant Magazine. I'd be, like, so honored if they would publish something by, you know, me.
I haven't thought all this through, yet. But it's cool, postmod, informed. I think it's pretty much in keeping with their sensibilities:
Coldplay is crazy over-rated. Christians who are liberal, politically, are actually more blatantly theocratic than the conservative ones. Rob Bell “borrows” from other writers way excessively. Quentin Tarantino isn’t really a genius. Tim LaHaye’s got some good stuff to say.
Sports, precisely because they tend to honor actual merit and excellence, are cool. Capitalism isn’t a “system’, it’s unavoidable, like gravity. Joel Osteen is on to something. Wilco is just a wee bit tiresome. Our culture needs more masculinity, not less. Donald Miller’s 15 minutes are so up. Abortion actually does kill millions of human beings, and therefore, is likely not just another justice issue.
Tulsa is a better place to live than Seattle. No one talks about it, but President Bush’s tax cuts actually raised revenues, as predicted, so they didn’t “cost” anything. Actually, singer-songwriter albums are generally just plain boring. The best part of waking up really is pre-ground Folgers’ in your cup.
Socialism is a really nifty-sounding idea that doesn’t work, but that’s okay, because Jesus didn’t spend much time on it, anyway. That Franklin Graham is pretty insightful about Islam. DC Talk is/was as talented as Black-Eyed Peas. How can teachers make so little while we pay so much money and attention to…Katie Couric? It's a fact that evangelical Christians, even those at glitzy mega-churches, are far more generous than non-evangelicals, when it comes to humanitarian causes.
It’s logically incoherent for Christians to deny intelligent design, and, if it's true, dishonest to oppose its teaching in legitimate science classes. Wal-Mart actually pays slightly more than the industry standard, and they have some good deals on some cool fishing equipment.
Looks promising. I'm going to keep polishing. |
