<geek talk>

I spent a little time tweaking my laptop today since I recently formatted and loaded a fresh installation of XP, and disabled the following with (seemingly) no loss in functionality: Application Layer Gateway Service, NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, SNMP Service, Computer Browser, Distributed Link Tracking Client, DNS Client, Error Reporting Service, Fast User Switching Compatibility, HTTP SSL, Iptrappp, Net Logon, NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing, Network Location Awareness, Network Provisioning Service, NT LM Security Support Providor, Performance Logs and Alerts, Portable Media Serial Number Service, Remote Access Auto Connection Manager, Remote Desktop Help Session Manager, Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator, Remote Registry, Secondary Logon, Smart Card, SSDP Discovery Service, TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Services, Telnet, Terminal Services, Uninteruptable Power Supply, Universal Plug and Play Device Host, Web Client, Windows Driver Foundation - User mode Driver Framework, Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, and WMI Performance Adapter.

Forty-three services in all.  Maybe that will help to make my computer boot up a tenth of a second faster.  We'll see.

If you notice a service that I disabled that you think I actually need, let me know.  I haven't experienced any negatives due to disabling them yet.

Also, don't disable something just because I did.  Everybody uses their computer differently, so do the research yourself and decide what services you need running.

You may have seen on the news today about Fern Creek High School in Louisville that was locked down today because of a student bringing a gun to school.  Several of the students at my church go to that school.  Tonight at youth we heard their experiences and prayed for them.  I thank the Lord that no shots were fired, and that they all remained safe.  This could very well have been another Columbine had it not been for the excellent action taken by the school, teachers, and police department.

Please pray that the students are able to recover from this experience.  And pray for that one student who was troubled enough to want to harm his peers.

 So my wife was telling me about this new xanga "mini" thing and told me to spend all my xanga "credits" on a xanga "mini" for her.  Problem is, I only have four xanga "credits" which doesn't buy a very nice "mini."  The good thing, though, is that I think to get "credits," all I have to do is post and comment.  Thus, the reason for this post...how many "credits" do you think it's worth?  View the comments to find out.

I've been sick the last week or so.  I've been in a cycle of 1) feel horrible, 2) get a little better, 3) think I'm just about over the cold, and then 4) go back to step 1.  I hope this goes away soon.  Currently, I actually feel just fine, but I have a minor sore throat, an occasional fit of coughing and sneezing, an eye infection in my right eye, fluid in my left ear so I can barely hear out of it, nasal congestion which occasionally leaks, and a raspy muted voice.  It sounds a lot worse than it is.  I'm just glad my headaches have stopped.  They were the worst part...they kept me in bed for a day and a half.

In other (more positive) news, I have just 4 classes left of seminary.  I'm really drawing it out though...I'll be taking just 1 class per semester until they're done.  I'm in no rush.  I like where I am right now.  I'm at a great church.  My wife and I love the people here.  Plus, we really like the house they're letting us live in.  Things are just going so well.  I'm so thankful for all that God blesses me with.  He has truly opened up the windows of heaven and poured out overflowing blessings onto me.  God is good.

It's amazing that it's already been five years.  In a lot of ways, it seems like just a few months ago.  We've always heard how much our lives would change when we got married...how much our marriage would change when we had a kid...how much our family would change when we had a second kid.  For us, the whole process has just been so natural and smooth.

For our 5th anniversary, we're going somewhere nice for dinner, getting our rings re-sized so they can fit back on our fingers (I need it more than she does even though she's had two babies and I've just watched the whole time...Abby is actually already almost down to her pre-any-babies weight!), and moving into our new house.  We may do more, but we haven't figured that out yet.

I'm so incredibly blessed.  I'm looking forward to the next five, and the five after that, and the fifty after that.  I love you, Abby, with all that I am.
