Caleb is doing awesome in his new bed. He's mostly been taking naps at the new house in a pack n play but he's had a couple good ones in the car bed. Bed time is going great. I spend some time reading with him and then put him in bed and read his Bible stories to him, them dim the light and pray with him and he gets himself under the covers and waves "nighty-night" and blows me kisses when I leave. He's even learning to say "I love you." Kinda. Oh and I've been telling him that I love him "very very very very" (and on and on) much and he repeats "very very very...." Oh how I love him!!! He has been doing some two year old tantrum stuff but overall he's such a delight to me. He's saying lots more words now, repeating a lot. He still loves to play with cars and he's crazy about flowers. And he loves animals and saying the sounds they make. Mom and I took him to the zoo a while back and he was in shock! Especially when he saw the first animal, a tiger. He literally stared with his jaw dropped, for a long time! And intermittently roared, then dropped his jaw again. It was SO funny and cute. And when he saw the elephants he made his elephant sound, tilting his head all the way back and looking straight up. Oh how I love spring and all that comes with it!! But I let him get sunburned today- oops! I'm a terrible mom! I got burnt too. Just wasn't thinking about that yet, you know? But he hasn't seemed to notice so maybe it will be okay.

Well, this is a very special time in my life and I'm so thankful and so blessed. Being the mom of tiny little kids is probably one of the most precious stages in all of life and I'm so glad to have a home to do it in. Especially seeing how Caleb loves it and how "at home" he feels. Thank you, Lord!

Caleb's learning so many words! He's finally saying his first object words. I think it was last week that he started saying "socks" and "shoes." He doesn't really pronounce them super clearly but it is so cute! His Auntie Lisa taught him how to say "toes." Socks sounds like, "sos" and toes is usually just "toe" or "toad." Ha ha. He's starting to say "car" too. Today we were looking at a book together and he was pointing out all the cars. And if I asked him where the ball or giraffe were, he could point them out. I often have no idea how much he understands since he doesn't say many words.

He's really been enjoying church because there are older boys. In Sunday school he plays with trucks on the table, running them around and around the edges of the table, copying the older boys and yelling and yelling. He runs and runs, and wrestles, and yells some more. When we put him in the carseat after church last Wednesday, he was so wound up that he just let out a load wooping yell, just for fun. I think I can relate to that, having had times when I was so hyper or having so much fun that I just wanted to yell. I thought it was funny. He's growing up.

Last night he starting learning how to go all the way under the water in swimming class. I guess that's important for learning how to swim. He did well with it. His eyes get so excited and he just keeps smiling when he realizes it's swimming time. He knows when we go to the locker room and start changing him. He doesn't seem to understand just by me telling him. I've been taking him to the Y a lot in the mornings for me to work out and he goes to the child care and seems to really like it now that he's used to it. Plus it's much calmer in the mornings. He didn't like it when I took him in the evening.

Caleb had his first swimming lesson today!! At the same pool that I took lessons in all my childhood. He was the cutest thing I've ever seen, sitting there on the bench in his little trunks, back super straight, feet crossed, wide-eyed and amazed, watching the kids playing the pool as we waited for our turn. He really enjoyed the lesson. I held him in the water and we did songs, and blew bubbles, kicked his little legs, held him and pulled him in a swimming kind of motion. He's going to love swimming! What a great way to get a kid used to the first steps of swimming when he's still really little.

I think he's been enjoying being here in the states and always having a different place to go, different toys, different activities. Between grandparents, church, friends' houses, Bible studies, and the gym, he's got a lot more going on than he did before. Here at my parents house he's always getting attention. If not from mommy and daddy then "Nana" or grandpa (still haven't figured out what to call him!) or Aunt Vika or Uncle Jeff. He's learned to knock on doors and he goes to Jeff and Vika's room and knocks when he wants to play. Ha ha!

He's been saying "hi" a lot recently. It's so cute! Someone will come over and he'll say "hi!" or when someone appears for the first time in the morning.

I was getting pretty frustrated and impatient for a while with having to chase him around and with his refusal of foods at meal times. But I prayed for a good attitude and asked a couple other people to pray for me and I've really been enjoying him so much more since then. He's a fun little guy!

Another new word!! Yesterday Caleb started saying "hot." During breakfast I think. Probably I gave him hot food. It's a word he's known well for a long time and gestures by waving one hand, like blowing away steam. But today and yesterday he's been saying it a lot. It's so cute. It's more like "ot." He says it about food, water, and the light above our bed. We were watching Ratatouille today and it shows a fire light up on a gas burner and Caleb said, "ot!" I think he's so smart! I may have missed a new word or two. He started saying "mama" over Thanksgiving but it's still not consistent and I can't even tell if he's relating that word with me. He is definitely learning words that he knows signs for first. And we thought signing might hinder speech!

Caleb gets really excited when I come home with the groceries every other Tuesday. I suddenly appear with all these bags everywhere.. Yesterday he did what he did last time, helped me unload all the goods. I'm sure he's excited to see what all is in there. He takes each thing out and hands it to me as I put it away. He carried all the frozen veggies from the hall, one bag at a time, and put them in the freezer drawer himself. He was so excited! He also helped me hang the laundry by handing me one little article of clothing at a time as I hung them up.

Then yesterday we were sitting in a chair together watching a movie and he suddenly looked up and kissed me right on the lips! He's been learning how to do that but it was so sweet cause it wasn't in the context of going "bye-bye" or anything. He did it a few times, it was SO SO sweet to me!! We watched a movie in the chair again today, the same one actually, and he kissed me again. Ha ha, so sweet! We shared a bowl of popcorn, it was fun.

The funniest thing is that when we were saying "bye-bye" to daddy when he left for prayer meeting tonight, Caleb was saying, "bye-bye" as usual, and then Daddy kissed Caleb, then Daddy kissed Mommy, then Caleb kissed Mommy.. it was so funny! He just knows kissing goes with saying bye bye but doesn't get that you usually just kiss the person who's leaving. But oh how sweet!
