What "real" books have you guys read that are the can't-put-down,cool and engaging kind?

I'm trying to pick books for Sam and Bek (and sometimes Jake) for Lit. this year, and want your suggestions.

(No "Captain Underpants" please.  We're going for a little higher grade level....)

Maybe this doesn't count, but it it is an excillent book, I liked Ender's Game.

Other good books are anything by Edgar Allen Poe, Ray Bradbury, C.S. Lewis, or any of those other great writers.

I would definately agree with Joel on Ender's Game, that is an amazing book. Though, as Joel said it may not count because it is Science Fiction.

You could also try the book Sophie's World, which is a really weird book, that gets boring at times, but when it's good it's really good. Oh, and it is a fiction novel about philosophy. I want to make a movie based on it some day, I think Sam would at least like the concept of it.

Bowser the hound. aha..no.

Well....I eternally love Peter Pan, which is a classic, but...I don't know if they would like it.

another book which I haven't read yet but I really want to is The Scarlet Letter. I don't know if they have read that yet.

I've heard that Animal Farm is awesome.

ok here goes...The Hidding Place by Corrie Ten Boom (a really good book), A Long Fatal Love chase by Louisa May Alcott( idon't know if that one counts for school but its really really good!it has a different feel then little woman), and Amy Carmichael of Dohnaour by Frank L Houghton. the last one i haven't finished yet and its a little hard to get through at soem parts but its really inspiring. i got alot out of it. finaly i'm in the process of reading Frankonstien (spelling)..wierd i know but its surprisingly intresting. Sam might like it. it isn't like hte movies at all. i have to read it for school and come up with the authers "world view" and i'm kind of injoying it. on a side note a book NOT to read is Silas Marner. i wasn't a big fan at all of that one.

A Prayer for Owen Meany is pretty good...I think the author's name is John Irving.  The Things They Carried is a pretty cool book about Vietnam that I had to read for an english class...and there's always Catcher in the Rye

The Cross and the Switchblade and Run Baby Run...

there books about a christian revival in New York City and they're written by the people that were there.

They're really powerful, inspiring and once you start you can't possibly force yourself to stop.

Oh and Till We Have Faces by C.S Lewis, and Black Beauty is the most charming book in the world.
