| Catching upI just wanted to send you all a message to catch you up on what has been happening in my world.
I've been studying a lot, and working, too, in order to pay for it. I received quite a scare last week when I received a message that stated that my graduation requirements would not be met at the end of this semester. After looking at my transcript instead of my audit, the registrar noticed that I did, in fact, complete enough courses to graduate. So, I'll be earning my BA in Spanish and History in December. I may even get Latin honors, although to do so I would have to get an A in all my classes. I don't know if I'll be able to do that, but I'm certainly going to try. Even if I don't get such honors, at least I'll be done. It's been a really long-time coming, and it feels good to finally be ending. Of course, I have no idea what I'll be doing after I'm done, but that will come.
Anyway, I must get to class now. Have a great day!!

| Musical Theater JunkieOkay, so what I want to know is, why didn't I ever watch Phantom of the
Opera before? I am, after all, a musical theater junkie. Andrew Lloyd
Webber is one of the all time greats of musicals, and I always wanted
to see it. Why didn't I? The answer is, I don't know.
Fortunately, last night in my Drama Classics on Video class we got to
see it. Now, I will admit it was a little cheesy because of the 80s
soundtrack, but I still loved it. What a romatic story. Just think, all
that time the phantom loved Christine and he let her go because he
realized she loved Raul so much that she wanted no harm to come to him.
He wanted to be loved like that too. What's even more romantic is that
after she died he still came to see her grave, leaving her that famous
single red rose with a black ribbon. He even gave that ring back to her
after holding on to it for so many years. I think even Raul had to be
touched by that. They both loved her so much.
I realize this doesn't happen normally in real life, and who would want
it to with all the drama it entailed. But, the love presented in it is
so real that I can't stop thinking about it. So, if you haven't seen
it, please do. If you have, leave me a message about whether you liked
it or not and your reasons. Also, if you saw a version different than
the one with Minnie Driver, please let me know. I'd love to compare
different versions to see what they all came up with. | | |
| ResearchRight now I am taking a break from my research paper before I head to my 530 class. I think I will actually study for that map quiz when I'm done here, though, instead of continuing my research. I have found many sources that look to be promising and I hope I will be able to narrow them down as the time comes for me to type the paper. There are actually many books written on the Spanish Inquisition, though, so I just need to find some that appear to talk about literature from that time period. I do have three books available in the library that I borrowed from KU that I should go pick up, but I'll probably wait for tomorrow. It is too cold to go outside when I'm already in the building for my next class. I will have to be outside tomorrow and Wednesday though (and it won't be quite as cold), so I'll pick them up then. I wanted to do some reading for another class, but I was unable to get onto the electronic book website. I will, of course, try again tomorrow, but I may have to try to seek a different way of locating that source. Oh, it's a good thing I was talking about sources because I almost forgot that I have some other sources I need to read for my Chinese history class. Right now Mom and Dad are taking a cruise. They were originally going to Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas, but Hurricane Ike came through and caused their ports of call to exclude Puerto Rico. I am hoping they will be able to tack it onto the end of their cruise (make it the last stop instead of the first), but obviously it will depend on whether or not Ike continues going so quickly or if he slows down at all. I hope this was enough of an update for everyone. Have a great day! | | |
| PromotedI wanted to take this opportunity to tell you all of the great thing that has happened to me this week. Today I found out I am being promoted to lingerie. After only three or four months I should get a raise, which will be great, as that will be the time I am getting ready to graduate. And, my friend Rosalie works up there, and she always brings a smile to my day.
That's really all I've got for now. Everything else is pretty normal. I've been studying like crazy and working even harder, but the finish line is in sight. Thanks for your prayers and your thoughts. Carmen

| HelloSome of my readers have switched over to Facebook. And that's too bad. Those of you who still read this will be one step ahead of those who don't.
School last semester went really well. I got all As and was rewarded by being placed on the President's Honor Roll and also receiving a letter from Senator Vicki Schmidt encouraging me to continue my education and then remain a resident of Kansas. That was a little cheesy, but I'm still proud of my work.
I am taking summer classes too in order to be able to graduate in December (everyone who knows where I live is welcome to attend either my reception or my graduation--info to follow later). So far they are going well, too, as I have received perfect scores on the completed assignments. The only thing I don't like about them is that they cost more than campus classes (two of the three are on-line). Fortunately, though I'll be working a lot over the summer so I'll be able to pay for everything very easily.
Our dance recital was last week. It went really well from my perspective. I love performing, though, so I'll almost always tell you it went well (really, though, I'm probably not lying).
So You Think You Can Dance remains one of my favorite shows. Last week I was thrilled that none of my favorites were in the bottom three.
Well, that's all for now. I need to shower and get to bed. Have a great day, and if you have any questions, just ask. Love, Kansas
